I've wanted a fox body for a long time. The first Mustang I ever rode in was a fox body. The first Mustang I ever drove was a fox body. I’ve been a huge fan of these cars since I was a teenager and always wanted to own one. I also wanted a project car that I could tinker with and build up and mod and learn on.

I spent the past few weeks trying to track down a reasonably priced fox body. I negotiated a sale on a 1988 GT but at the last minute the seller decided he wanted to keep the car. I tried to buy a 1990 LX and again the seller decided he was going to keep the car. I tried to buy a 1992 GT and basically told the seller I would pay asking price and then he stopped responding to my emails.

Convinced the universe was conspiring against me, I was about to take a break for a while but came across a couple more options. I checked out this 1988 GT and made an offer last week. Finally picked the car up yesterday. She definitely needs some work but she runs strong and is a lot of fun to drive. Looks good in the garage next to my 2014 GT. :)

Be prepared for a shit load of threads/questions as I get started working on this thing, lol.

Nice looking car! My first mustang was a white 91 GT. Bought it my junior year in highschool.

Welcome to the club something about a fox just gets people boners.

This cracked me up.:D

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm pretty excited about the car. I'm planning to document my progress updating/modding the car through videos on my YouTube channel. Hopefully it won't be a total disaster.

Man that shifter, lol. You plan on keeping it? If your car is leaking oil, the rear main seal is notorious for that. Mine has a little leak. But I have a coolant leak that takes priority first.

Nice pick up. I have pictures of my old 91 GT. It had porno red interior as well.

Yeah man, the shifter is bananas. Honestly, if it was made of something more solid/sturdy, I might consider keeping it on there but it's made of plastic. I mean, I'll probably hold onto it for occasional entertainment but I probably need to get something a little bit nicer. I was looking at some 03 Cobra style shift knobs and I really dig those.

Thanks for the tip on the rear main seal. I won't be able to do anything with the car until this weekend but I plan on poking around a bit underneath.

Awesome man! I just got back into a foxbody last May. About 11 years I've been out of the fox mustang game. Feels great!

I think my car has a old Hurst shifter, but I bought a mgw shifter to install.

Yeah man, during the searching process, I was open to a few other car options but when I drove a couple of the Fox Bodies that I was trying to buy, it pretty much just sealed it for me that I needed to get a Fox and I would be disappointed settling for something else.

The 90 LX that I drove had a Hurst shifter in it, one with the chrome stick and white ball shift knob and I really liked it. If I can find a decent deal on something like that, I'll probably go that route. I gotta be honest, after driving with the crazy tall Budweiser shift knob, I might need to stick with something on the taller end. It's pretty convenient not having to move my hand too far from the steering wheel, lol.

Awesome car. Even has the factory turbine wheels. I loved my Fox and have always regretted getting rid of it.

My only suggestion is get rid of that hood. Put the factory one back on.

When I install my mgw I'd sell the Hurst shifter at a great price. But it will be a few months.

I didn't like it at first but its growing on me. The seller didn't have a stock hood. I would prefer a small cowl hood but since I'll be on a budget, that won't be a priority any time soon.

I had this Hurst shifter in my 89 GT. Loved that shifter. Not saying it was the best, but ergonomically it was great for me.

I hear you. The guy who bought my 89GT put a similar hood on it. That's where my distain comes from LOL. Enjoy your Fox Body. You can see how happy you are in your video.

Please add me to the top of the list when you're ready to sell

I was looking at that one on AM and wondering if the different angle might somehow be better ergonomically....now you've got me thinking about it. This is the one that I really liked:

I have a shifter handle like above. The only thing I don’t like is that it puts your elbow a little more rearward than I’d like.

Welcome to the club. My first car was a 93 GT I bought after boot camp in 01. Skip to present day and I now have a 1990 lx coupe I tinker with and enjoy.

Congratulations! My daughter's first car was a Fox body. My son-in-law's was a Fox body (GT) as well. I enjoyed your video review of the car. Man, I had forgotten about the older technology back then. Their rawness, though, is part of their appeal.

My first, second, and third cars were fox bodies.

In high school (1997) I had an 81 straight 6 hatchback with a 4 speed (rare). Red leather (not vinyl), T tops and power windows. It was a demo car at the Ford dealer my father worked for.
Second car was an 82 Capri RS, again a 4 speed.
Third was an 89 coupe. 5 liter, 5 speed
