Well...yesterday was an adventure.
Went out to mow my lawn in the heat.
Finished 99 percent of the mow and heard something snap. Then I heard something that sounded like golfballs in a coffee can.
Shut off the mower and went to investigate.
Imagine my surprise to see the rear of the mower covered in oil. Seems the oil filter backed itself off when I was mowing dumping all the oil until the engine seized.
Looks like a replacement 26 hp engine is $1300 and a 28 hp is $1600. A Kawasaki 30 hp is $2500. The OE engine is a B&S Vanguard 26 hp.
Does anyone have any previous experience going to a bigger engine when the OE craps out on their motor?

Ita a Simplicity Cobalt 61 inch. It's not a throw away and buy another type mower.
I don't know man... Seems like a lot of coin to throw at an appliance. I've thought about hiring a service to mow my place. A bit more expensive but a lot less time dedicated to chopping little blades of grass. I can make more money, can't make the time.

For anyone asking, it was an $8k mower 7 years ago when I purchased new.
I want a new stand on/ behind mowers but those are salty AF

I’d just throw another 26 on it and see if you can get another 7 years.

Can't you have the motor rebuilt by a small engine guy? These aren't exactly F1 engines.

Can you buy a used mower locally and swap it? Then you have a parts mower if you get the same kind or you can just part out or sell for a hundred bucks for someone who needs the deck

I did 6 months ago. Trust me when I say it was on correctly.
Perhaps you can contact the manufacturer and ask them how the hell the oil filter backed off when it was on properly? I guess they might counter that it needs to be checked every time?

7.3L Godzilla is the way.

I would rebuild or* just stick with an OEM replacement engine.

Sucks to hear. That's a pretty nice mower!

I had a budget Craftsman weed trimmer grenade in my hand once. Damn near shit myself. LOL
