The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has potentially broken records and have spotted the oldest galaxy in the universe- a galaxy that existed when the universe was a mere 300 million years old. That's right, the super space telescope which was responsible for the "deepest and sharpest infrared image of the early universe" ever taken, that became viral earlier this month, has now shared a picture of the oldest galaxy in the universe.

What is that spiral looking galaxy in the bottom left of the bottom right photo?
I'm not familiar enough with that area to say, sorry. But ain't it cool?

And it's not alone. I see two others, as well. One in the top right, and a couple in the top left.

In the past, with visible light, you wouldn't even be able to see them against the (comparative) brightness of Neptune. But the Webb, seeing in infrared? There they are!

James Webb spots super old, massive galaxies that shouldn't exist

In a new study, an international team of astrophysicists has discovered several mysterious objects hiding in images from the James Webb Space Telescope: six potential galaxies that emerged so early in the universe’s history and are so massive they should not be possible under current cosmological theory.

EDINBURGH, Scotland — The James Webb Space Telescope is giving us our first look at a galaxy 12.5 billion light years away from Earth. The galaxy – known as GS-9209 – begin forming some 800 million years after the Big Bang, making it the earliest galaxy discovered to date, researchers say.
