Toying with the idea of tossing a 5.0 in my '86 should I upgrade to a 9" or 8.8" rear end??

You don't need to upgrade to an 9 inch. The 8.8 will hold up. You might want to add a gear and posi of some sort. The stock axles are pretty strong. I went 12.19 at 118 mph in my 95 gt. You will be fine. The price for the combo doesn't sound that bad.

wow that is fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope mine will go that quick car only has 83k of mile son it now so Im assuming the axles are ok.......

My 8:8 has held up pretty wll, been to the track a few times.

8.8 will work fine. No need to spend that type of money on a 9 inch unless your going to be putting lots of horsepower and and some meats on the rear...
