Like @03Sssnake said, it's been in the making for a while. The standard issue upgrades are insane, even for the Marines. Basic infantry is getting shit we only had available on offer in a CQB suite which was supposed to be better than what everyone else had. Standard issue suppressors for rifleman, better optics, better NVGs, etc. It's a good time to be in if you are a gear queer, and still awesome even if you aren't!

I have a 6.8SPC, but the new 6.8 will have more power than that.

Just read about the new optics, wow. When I was a sniper in the Marines, 86-92, the last 2 yrs I was in STA PLT, we used a cheatsheet taped to the inside of the butt stock of our M40, a pen/pencil, and note pad, to calculate the dope on our scope for a shot. Temp, wind speed and value, temp, distance, cold/hot barrel, etc.

Yep, optics have come a LONG way since '86-'92. Amazing stuff being manufactured today.

Still wont be effective in a COIN fight.
And the world has turned the corner on a primarily force on force fight

Money better spent would be cyber defense and an answer for some peoples nukes

Basically what it sounds like, a telephone pole shape and sized hunk of tungsten dropped from a satellite in I believe a low earth orbit.

So terminal velocity from space of a free fall tungsten projectile is 10x the speed of sound (~7,600 mph)?

I don't understand that statement, about the 5th paragraph down:

Yea, when I was reading about it, they talk about mach 10 but then during reentry most of that velocity is lost. I forget what the after reentry velocity is but it still sounded extremely damaging
