my fox has a stock 5.0. i thought about swapping a crown vic 4.6 into it. i would of course do the PI head/intake swap. if its not that much of HP gain, then I'd stick to the 5.0

stick with the 5.0

its not worth doing an underpowered crown vic version of the already underpowered non pi 4.6 junk motor even if u do the pi swap thats only 260 crank hp, you can just build ur current stock 5.0 with h/c/i and make 270-300+rwhp n/a or go with the stock 5.0 gt40 parts with a cam off the cobra 5.0 motors / explorer and make 240-290rwhp instead of a

200 crank hp 4.6 or 260 crank hp pi swap, you would need to change so much to change it to a pi swapped obd2 4.6 motor new gauges, bellhousing, engine motor mounts custom headers, wireing harness tune etc not worth the hassle for such low power and going down to a 281 c.i lil 4.6, only way to go with a 4.6 in a fox is the current newer cobra motors or mach 1 or the new coyote 4 valve 5.0 motors which all have 300-400+crank hp. or a 03-04 cobra motor.

stay 5.0, the most you can get out of a 4.6 with bolt ons and heads and cam is around 300whp, while at the same time thats all you can get out of the 5.0 it will be alot cheaper and alot less pain.

Huh? No way man, you can get more than 300 N/A hp out of a 5.0 engine. You might have to put a stroker kit in it, but regardless, there is far more potential in the 5.0 than in that vic motor if you're keeping N/A.

If you are going to do a mod engine swap, do it right. Get a 4v 4.6, or the new 5.0. Don't waste your time on a 2v.

why are you doing it? power, wow factor, ???

i'd love to have an old light fox (79ish) w/ a big bore TFS headed 4.6 w/ a carb on it, i'd do an LS1 swap before I did that just for the $ factor but the cool factor would definately be there w/ the SOHC

Im saying stay 5.0 for the potential bro..??

but i also stay true to my statement in the 5.0 (302ci) theres only around 300whp to be made staying n/a..

yes you can go stroker but you wont get more than 300-320whp n/a out of 302 cubic inches..

and i agree if you do go mod motor go 4v 4.6, n/a id choose a mach 1 engine (h,c,i,e will net 375whp) for blown appeal go with the termi engine. but never a 2v even if it was a free engine (based off pure lack of potential in stock 281ci form)

Yeah I read that to fast I think. I missed the first part of your post. I also agree with the last part of this one...I wouldn't put a 2v 4.6 in my car even if it was a free engine and my car wasn't running.

WRONG!:bash::bash:

Do your research I use my car for example , my car with my last setup on my 5.0 306 h/c/i on aggresive 93 octane tune on a nice day made over 330rwhp and a race tune made 361rwhp.

My current setup has lower compression but larger cam thats 224/232 274/282 .555 / .565 lift even on a "safe tune" with blower pistons with lower compression on hott day with regular 93 octane tune is good for 300-320rwhp. I havent had time or money to tune it yet, but it made close to 290rwhp letting off @ 5,000 rpms with problems with no new tune and the cam is good to 6,500 rpm's for peak power so do your math another 1,500 rpm's and fix problems with a tune on a nice day would only inflate them numbers alot.

so that would make 300+rwhp all day, do your research thats without a stroker stock block 5.0 only bored .30 over 306. FTI has made up to as much as 380rwhp on a n/a 5.0 306 c.i setup. and around 450rwhp on a 331 c.i.

Now if your talking about your regular small average stock / low compression stock 5.0 motor with basic stage 1 or ford racing B or e cam h/c/i setup / gt40 heads then yeah 270-300rwhp is the norm because those cams are like .480-.490 lift cams. stock is .444

My car with stock motor with just basic trickflow heads and intake with crappy ford racing cam on a hot day about 5 years back put down 273rwhp untuned and over 300rwhp even on that small setup on pump gas on hott summer day.

Take it from someone like me that has built a few mod motor foxes. Its not real cheap to do these swaps and very time consuming. So if your going to invest the time and money in a mod swap do a 4v or the new 5.0 mod motor.

Its a bucket load of work for sure. I just complete my 91 to 03 Cobra conversion and had to have 200 hrs into it. Not worth it if your plans are to stick with the 2V. BUT...it will be ready when a nice 4V comes your way for a quick swap.
