Unsure on where the grind sound effect is coming from. I'm hoping someone else had encountered something similar, and could chime in. Here's the story. Car was running great last night, but when I got off of the freeway and hit a bit in 2nd gear (didn't even take it to 4K), I heard a faint chirp so I backed off and eased it home. By the time I got it home, the chirp was occurring at RPM's below 3500 RPM under light throttle. By the time I was near my house I could hear a faint grinding sound, but as it was late, I just parked it in the garage. This morning I swapped belts, assuming that was the cause... apparently not. Interestingly, when "the chirp" occurs, the tensioner happens to also jump (note the socket handle in the 2nd video - startled the hell out of me LOL). Here is a video of the pulley spinning with no belt on (checking the coupler): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pom6iRUUVHw Here is the video of the leaping tensioner and the pulley system: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLwrLSX1Guc Here is a video me panning around the engine bay trying to pin down the source of the "grinding" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u09wHlwXyWk Do you guys think I'm lucky and that this is just an issue with the tensioner? Is the 'grinding' something that accompanies a failing tensioner? NOTE: stock lower pulley, 2.76 upper; Brand new alternator, all idlers checked (replaced two to be safe).
