Sumitomo Rubber USA, which owns tire maker Dunlop, fired 1,550 people this week as the Japanese company plans to close its Buffalo factory.

The company did not announce plans at the same time to open a new factory, but said it made the 'difficult decision' because the New York manufacturer couldn't keep up with overseas prices.

Scout likely will be contending with the same slow BEV adoption that VW has faced with other models in the U.S. and Europe. The automaker has chosen to tackle Scout’s distribution by opting to sell and deliver the new brand directly to consumers rather than through franchisees. Franchised automobile dealers, who wield considerable political clout in the U.S. on a state and federal level, already are marshalling legal and regulatory opposition.

VW hopes to cut distribution and marketing costs, much as Tesla (TSLA) and a few others have done, by sidestepping the dealer franchise system. Particularly unhappy are VW and Audi franchisees who view the effort to evade dealers as an affront - many long-time VW and Audi dealers would like the first crack at selling new Scout models, the Traveler SUV and Terra Pickup.

“To attempt to sell Scout vehicles direct to consumers and compete with its U.S. dealer partners is disappointing and misguided, and it will be challenged,” National Automobile Dealers Association CEO Mike Stanton said to CNBC.

If I was Ford, I would strike a deal with Trump to rescind the CAFE BS so that I could make expensive, reliable, and profitable V8 SUVs and trucks. Then I'd pull all sales and parts support from EU and tell them to pound sand with their EV mandates.

That would make too much sense.

MILAN, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Stellantis (STLAM.MI), opens new tab Chief Executive Carlos Tavares has resigned, the maker of Jeep, Fiat and Puegeot cars said on Sunday, adding it aimed to find a new head in the first half of this year.

Previously regarded as one of the most respected executives in the auto industry, Tavares came under strong criticism earlier this year after Stellantis issued a profit warning on its 2024 results, including a forecast for a cash burn of up to 10 billion euros, mostly blaming slow sales and bloating inventories in its key North American market.

"The Company's Board of Directors, under the Chairmanship of John Elkann, accepted Carlos Tavares' resignation today from his role as Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect," Stellantis said in a statement.

If Trump doesn't roll back the EPA insanity, we'll all get to see automotive Armagedón.

Mustang sales slow in the winter, not a shock.

You knew it was coming, didn’t you? Ford has been teasing the Mustang GTD‘s lap at the Nürburgring for weeks, hinting that it would soon become the first car built by an American manufacturer to run the Green Hell in under seven minutes. Today, the Blue Oval officially announced that the 815-horsepower Mustang GTD conquered the Nordschleife in 6:57.685. That’s real darn fast.

Interesting.

According to one such source in the report, "Everybody wanted to keep [Hemi]," while Tavares wanted to push green energy and wouldn't budge on the issue. While the death of the Hemi is something to mourn, the decision points to larger issues under Tavares's leadership.

The CNBC report describes a CEO with a "reluctance, if not unwillingness, to listen to U.S. executives about the American market," which led to the removal of the Hemi from Stellantis's passenger-car lineup and ultimately cost Tavares his job. Despite the CEO's push for rapid electrification in North America, the company's EV growth continues at a relatively slow pace.

With Tavares gone, the future of the brand is in question. The company is currently being run by an interim executive committee headed by chairman John Elkann. After retiring in May, former Dodge and Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis—who previously launched the Hellcat lineup and championed the Hemi—returned to the company to serve as the CEO of Ram.

Kuniskis's return doesn't necessarily mean the Hemi will make a return, but the move suggests a larger culture shift in the near future of the company. As things stand now, Stellantis still sells the Hemi V-8 as a crate engine as well as in the brand's full-size pickups and the somehow still-around Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. It's no longer available in passenger models such as the Chrysler 300 or the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger, all of which have either been discontinued or removed the powertrain as an option.

Looks like 2024 will be the lowest sales year ever for Mustang. Troubling considering this was a new model year.

Yeah, cause Ford completely missed the mark on the S650 turd.

S650 sales are looking abysmal in 2024.
