I am going to preface this by stating I am pist the **** off right now!
I finally pulled apart my cardone calipers this afternoon trying to pull out a small victory on my car.
I fully disassembled my R/H caliper first and what I found was shocking. The bore that accepts the parking brake lever is corroded. The seal was also not driven down flat. You can see the corrosion and kind of tell the seal is off
This is the bore AFTER I cleaned it. Again Pretty corroded
I then took apart the L/H caliper. This one shows mild corrosion but would be usable with a rebuild. However the ratcheting mechanism is completely inoperable. This caliper has new internals which tells me something is off dimensionally with the parts.
I bought these over a year ago so no way rockauto will do anything. I am basically stuck buying another set.
With what I found on my R/H caliper I think I know what happened to the guy involved in the rollover @gilby959798 and @Mustang5L5 posted about.
My suspicion is that his caliper locked up due to heavy corrosion that jammed the mechanism.
The only good thing here is that I didn't run these calipers because both had flaws.
On to figuring out which brand to roll the dice with. Whatever I get will be pulled apart, inspected and seals replaced.
