I bought mine from RA. I didn’t want new brackets because my stockers were already PC’d. 97 Taurus, can buy them with or without brackets.

I PC’d the Taurus calipers, one leaked right alway, did a rebuild and new piston, fixed the leak. Not sure if it happened from PC or not. But all good now.
My current brackets just have the caliper paint. I'm trying to up my game a little. Had some motivation this past July. ;)

For those that ordered the Taurus calipers; did you get the calipers that came with the bracket? And if so is the bracket the same as what's on the Cobra?

They are not.

The brackets that come with the Taurus caliper are similar to the GT/V6 caliper. I've never bolted one up to confirm it's the same as the GT/V6 but it looks very similar and I would bet money it's the same part.

You are better off buying the Taurus calipers sans brackets (Cardone 184536 and 184537), and then just buying the Cardone 141042 bracket which is $15. You'll need the caliper pins and boots and hardware as well. You would use Cobra pads

What pads are you guys running with the Taurus calipers? I don't mean compound rather Cobra or Taurus pads?

Makes sense now as to why my Taurus pads weren't fitting worth a damn
Personally, I run a track pad on my car but it sees maybe 500 miles a year on the street. ATS pads are the same as an earlier gt500 pad, so they're easy to get as a track pad too. The Cobra pads are thinner, that might be part of the issue. I'm not sure what he Taurus pad looks like.

If you get a loaded Taurus caliper, it's essentially a GT/V6 caliper with the 43mm pistons. It won't fit on the cobra rotor for the same reasons a V6 caliper won't.

The pads are the thicker GT/V6 versions and the abutment bracket is the narrow type that won't fit over the cobra rotor. Now, i'm not 100% sure the bracket and pads are exactly the same as the GT/V6, but they are a similar style.

I used to get asked these questions all the time so I made a Youtube video. Basically the only Taurus part you want to use is the 43mm caliper body itself. Everything else should be Cobra assuming you want the standard 11.65" cobra brakes.

I used my factory Cobra caliper bracket with the Taurus caliper but was trying to use the Taurus pads. Makes sense now

I just did the ATS front calipers and Taurus 43mm rear calipers with SS brake lines (not yet installed in the pictures). I ordered my Taurus calipers from rockauto and they had them with and without the bracket. I got them with the bracket although I knew I wasn't going to need them just so I could include something since I was going to sell my oem rear brakes. If I remember right, the difference was only $1.80 ea. I am using bigger rotors and cobra brake pads for the rear.

I did some rockauto part number searching just out of curiosity. This doesn't change anything, just more or less sharing info for the sake of knowledge.

The pad bracket for the Taurus calipers looks like the GT/V6 bracket, but the part numbers are off by a digit or so, so there is likely a slight difference. My guess it's mounting bolt size I would imagine.

Same with pads. Same shape as the SN95 pad, but a different part number than Cobra and GT, so I am guessing the difference is thickness. However both the V6/GT rotor and taurus rotor are the same 0.550" thickness.

Given that the vast majority of folks are doing this with Cobra 11.65" brakes, just stick with Cobra stuff for everything other than the caliper body. If you need Cobra caliper brackets/abutments, use the Cardone 141042 bracket.

Has anyone ever tried to run a set of the 17x4.5 Racestar wheels over these brakes?

Sorry for the crap pics but I'm in a one bay garage. Apex 18x9.5 +35mm I think. They fit without a spacer but I have a 12mm spacer for additional coil over clearance.

Does anyone know if these calipers will fit on newer CCW Classics? Tried searching this thread but didn't find anything.

Finally got the tires mounted and half of them on the car. I have it back in the air so I can flush the brake fluid, gotta get ready for that next track weekend!

Excited to finally get mine done. Did a pull the other day and the vehicle was kinda of sketchy slowing down. So figured out the power level its at brakes were needed. Elected for the XTS calipers with the 14" GT500 rotors, Just motocraft rotors and powerstop pads, Rear is the Taurus Caliper and cheap rotors with powerstop. I however elected to use the S&S rotor spacer but drill my spindle to use the bigger bolt. (Buddy had good success this way) Dropped the calipers off at my buddies for blue powdercoat to match my tanks! Should have them on in a couple of weeks!

FYI,

Saw a lot of guys reporting issues with the Cardone reman 43mm calipers. Points to a potential reman issue with Cardone. Had a few folks chime in on the
"79-04 Mustang HPDE & Autocross" FB group that experienced caliper lockup with them. One guy locked up on track, another guy had one lock up after setting parking brake. Have heard of a few other examples as well.

Something you might want to keep an eye out for if you are running a cardone reman.

Have not heard of issues with the standard 38mm calipers.
