Has anyone heard that Mass will reject/not allow any cars that have a modified tune to pass inspection?

I was sent to the Motorist Assistance Center (MAC) and was told due to the fact that I had a modifed tune (diff from Stock) that I would not pass inspection. I was told to revert to stock tune before I came back.

Also, they said this was new a/o October 2011...

Curious if anyone else has run into this or heard of this new law...

    Thanks
    David

I know he is in talks with Pete to get a revised tune so that he can pass inspection.

So what was the conclusion to your story... Did you finally pass MAC and then have to go back to get a sticker?

The problem is that mass has kept records of our cars for the last 3 years. So if a monitor is originally on and then turned off for the tune then I will throw a flag. When u buy a car brand new it expects your inspection status to be the same everytime. So u buy a new car and it gets insepected. You buy a tuner and it shuts off a monitor. You just failed. Luckily Pete has worked with someone to understand the system. You can mod whatever u want on your car but the monitors have to stay the same every year. My friend has a evo and was sent to MAC. They have records of his car sensors and monitors being different every year. Even the fact that he had a European intake manifold. Talk to Pete to get a custom tune bc canned tunes arnt gonna pass anymore. I hope this helps.

Having the same problem in Illinois. Failed emissions because my monitors were " not supported". Car is an 03 cobra with stock manifolds or/x and stingers, ported blower, 60's, sct maf and 520rwhp. Tuned by Fastlane in NC. They say it should pass and don't know why it won't. They suggested the obd port might be screwed, but I checked that with my sct flash tuner and it definitely works, so I'm at a loss here aswell. If anybody has insight for our collective problems that would be great.

I have a way better solution!

Find a friend that lives in a NON emission state, PAY him to use his addy and register your seasonal Stang there!

I live in CT, I have a 2nd residence in a NON emission state. No TAX No emissions. Good luck friends

You failed bc monitors were not supported.... They need to figure out how to run the car with all monitors back to its original status.

Then I guess it's going to a local Chicagoland shop to get it sorted out.

It sucks, but its true. I failed a couple years ago because I replaced the battery and didn't drive it enough to turn all the monitors on. This stuff is becoming a little silly. But if we owned cars that were 20 years old all we would have to pass is safety. Sit tight the standards are only going to get worse as years go on. Pretty soon you won't be able to change anything.

guess this is where MIL eliminators would win over just turning the rear O2s off in a tune

Just to let you know. It's doesn't matter if you know someone or not. As soon as you plug it in to the system it says unsupported. Go see Pete. I went through this in march. All set now. He can tune around it no problem whatsoever. Good luck

So... How long must it be driven to turn all the monitors on? Is that right they just turn themselves on when u reach a certain mileage or something?

Ok. That's weird. So I have to drive the car for 80 miles before I get it tested?!?! This sounds messed up. Guess I'll see what my tuner says.
