This question probably has been beat to death but I currently own A modular Cobra and will be taking delivery of a 91 notchback hopefully sometime in April. Right now it has a Vortech S-trim, 3.73 gears, longtubes, H-pipe and a cam but I am unsure what one it has. It also has what I believe are 15x8 Weld Rod lite wheels on the rear. It has regular street radials which appear to be 245/50/16 size. I would like a taller tire to fill out the rear wheel wells a little more. It will probably be mainly for looks but I am open to either a drag radial or regular street tire. I am unsure how much taller/wider I can go without running into clearance issues. I really don't want to roll the fenders or remove the quad shocks. I am also worried about losing gear if I ran a taller tire but I am not sure if this will be a Issue...............I am also curious if I went to a 17 inch wheel if I am ok to run a 17x8 with a 245/45/17 or a 17x9 rim with a 275/40 out back without rubbing and what one of these sizes would be ideal on the front. Thank you for any help.

I run a 275/40 on stock 03 cobra wheels out back without issue, though my quads are removed. If you have aftermarket LCA's the quad shocks aren't needed anyway. They are there to prevent wheel hop, and with aftermarket control arms you won't have that problem.

Up front I run 245's, anything wider rubs under hard cornering. I also have an 03 cobra R&P on the car, so if you are still using one of the other racks you'll want limiters if you go to a 9" wheel.

When I was still running my quad shocks, I had minor rubbing issues with 245's out back on stock wheels. My buddy ran 275's, but his rear wheels stuck out past the 1/4 panels. So tire width will also be a function of wheel offset, and if you are running a stock offset, a 245 is about as wide as you'll be able to comfortably throw back there with the quad shocks still in place.

Thanks for the info. I was actually thinking of getting a set of 93 Cobra wheels eventually so I would imagine a 245/45/17 would be ideal. I am curious if A 255/60/15 would be ok for the rear because the tires that are on the rear in the pictures don't fill up the wheelwell the way I would like them to.

Well, it's easy enough to figure out (this is rough, I divided by 25, and not 25.4 to convert to inches because I'm lazy);
255/60/15: 27.24" tall
245/45/17: 25.82" tall
245/50/16 (your current tire): 25.8" tall
225/55/16 (Stock, and what your speedo is calibrated for): 25.9" tall
275/40/17 (what I run): 25.8" tall

You will more than likely need to roll the fenders AND remove the quad shocks if you want to fit a decent sized rear tire on here.

I just have to figure out what backspacing/offset the rear wheels are, its just that a 255 or 245/60/15 tire is going to be 1.5" taller than a 275/40/17 tire so that's what I am worried about.
