IAT Sensor location

See lots of discussion on where to mount the IAT sensor. I have just finished my V1 install on my 98 Cobra. Only part I have left to do is mount this sensor. Lots of people strongly advise before the blower, others are after the blower. Mainly because after the blower is when you get actual temp readings because the blower creates that much heat, and its better for timing purposes ect.. So which is the correct location to mount this, in my power pipe before the blower or after the blower closer to the TB?

I don't think there's a correct way. But I prefer it after the blower. I had mine right before the intake. Do yourself a favor and pick up an IAT2 sensor for a Lightning. You'll need to have a bung welded to the pipe because it's threaded. But there won't be any chance of a boost leak with it.

I say after. Who cares what the air is before the supercharger. You only care what it is after the compression going into the motor. Now if you can do both like the 03/04 cobra, one in the intake and one after the blower that gives you best of both worlds then that is nice.

Would you have to adjust something in your tune depending on where you put it? I know that's how it is for the EEC-IV. Otherwise the fuel adjusted for IAT will be off.

I don't see how or why anyone with any sense would recommend putting the IAT sensor before the blower. To my knowledge the ONLY company the keeps it before the blower is vortech. Everyone else places it after the blower and it makes total sense because why would you NOT want to know what the actual charge temps are?

Here's why I asked. Vortech even in there install manual tells you to put it back in near the air filter. So that's pre blower. Does anyone have pics of where they put theres?

I have NO idea why the hell they essentially kept it in the stock location. The way I look at it is if ford wants to know what the charge temps are why wouldn't everyone else?

When I had an S trim years ago I put it just before the bend in the charge pipe going into the throttle body. Only thing I'd change is putting it on the bottom to make it a cleaner install.

Exactly. I had mine installed in the bottom of the pipe right before the bend to the throttle body. You'll need a lightning threaded Iat.

SO without buying a lightning iat, how do you all suggest inserting the factory iat to the new vortech tube? I was suggested drill a hole, and use a rubber grommet? I can't weld a bung onto it anyhow because its a plastic pipe.

I would think a rubber grommet held IAT would shoot out under boost and that may be why they but it preblower instead of building it correctly.

That is what I was thinking but seems that what most do. Honestly don't know how else to do this with a plastic tube. The funds arent there right now to buy the metal pc. Not unless I can thread the plastic and use a lightning iat. But then how well will the plastic threads hold up? This simple little issue is holding me back from hitting the tuner...

jb weld a bung into the plastic tube?

people pay stupid money for vortech/procharger crap - whats that plastic tube worth if you sell to offset the cost of some metal piping?

Honestly. I wouldn't pay enough to remotely come close to being able to buy metal piping. I may just try drilling a hole 8 inches from the TB, lubing the shit out of a grommet then pressing it in. I just don't see any other way of doing it. Trying to find pictures and or write ups of how others do it and the most I come across is the grommet method.

can you post a pic of your setup? Treadstone sells a 16" piece of intercooler piping for $30...

Here is what I got. I think I was going to drill the hole from the bottom to keep it clean, between the TB and the first bend in the pipe. Don't pick on the blue boot. I ruined one while storing it this winter so waiting on my new ones.. Maybe pop the grommet out of my stock pipe and using it?

is all the gold pipe plastic? if the pipe that says "vortech" is metal Id just put it in the underside of that one. IAT placement so long as it's post blower isnt nearly as critical as say MAF
