It snows alot where I live,no way I'm driving my Cobra in the snow.Last year my beater was a 1993 Ford Tempo, ran good but I got rid of it because the inner and outer tie rods were bad,not worth the repair.

I've only got about $1,500. to spend. With gas prices soaring the price of small economy cars is rising.I drive 80 miles round trip, need something good on gas and a good reputation for dependability.I like Toyota Corollas but don't think I'll find one for cheap.

Any ideas?I need suggestions.

Get an older Toyota truck. Those things will run forever, plus it's a truck. I'd also suggest an older Ranger, mazda, nissian etc truck.

Get a super old Jeep Cherokee. My boyfriend and I were looking for a winter beater as well, and we found a couple of late 80s early 90s Jeep 4x4s that were around 1500-2000.

You ever see the Top Gear where they tried to destroy that Toyota pickup truck? They couldn't break the thing. :lol1:

I got a Geo Tracker for $200, have had it for a year now and still runs great. Get something that doesn't have enough power to hurt it self. The tracker had like 1 qt of oil in it when I bought it and no signs of trouble.....

Yeah, they run forever, also hard to find cause people keep them long term.
My brother has one with well over 200,000,still runs strong.

I may have to spend a little more than 1,500.But if you are willing to search, there are good finds.Older cars tend to rust a little here which hurts resale.
I can put up with a lttle rust...I just want to get through the winter.

I know its not 1500 but I just bought a DD 2002 Dodge Neon for 5500 with 40,000 miles. Runs great, gets 30 mpg, is in descent shape. It will last me several years to come. It would end up being cheaper than buying a junker that could need repairs soon.

I found my 86 4Runner on autotrader a couple of months ago. I paid $1200 cash for it and the thing kicks ass. I always wanted an old 4Runner with the removable top and now I have one, I got it dirt cheap, passed emmisions and now it is registered. Oh yeah just a few small surface rust spots, nothing too bad, it is from New Mexico.
