I bet it isn't the real ball.

ESPN said:
MIAMI -- A Florida girl who grabbed a historic home run ball hit by Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard has her prize back after suing the team for its return.

The July home run against the Florida Marlins was Howard's 200th. He achieved that milestone in the fewest games in major league history.

After 12-year-old Jennifer Valdivia scooped up the ball, she was escorted to the Phillies clubhouse and then exchanged it for an autographed ball.

The girl's mother filed a lawsuit Monday seeking the home run ball's return. Attorney Norm Kent says the Phillies agreed and now Jennifer has the ball back.

The Phillies declined comment on Wednesday.

I guarantee Howard has that ball at home in the trophy case and the little girl has a ball that was rolled around in the dirt a few times and handed over to her.

I can't believe the mother filed a lawsuit. How do these people think they have any right to that ball?

Odd that when Barry Bonds hit 756 (scandals and all that aside please - I live in the bay area), the fan was allowed to keep the ball (and he ended up selling for profit which I believe was taxed:smmon:). Even if Bonds wanted to keep the ball, it probably wasn't even an option.

I agree that Howard probably still has the ball:lol:.

Everytime a home run or foul ball is hit into the stands, does the person that catches it get escorted into the clubhouse and offered an exchange for the ball? No, they keep it. So this girl should have had the option to keep the ball if she wanted it.

Seriously though, who cares about the ball that was hit? Howard has the bat, and himself, which should be a bit more important to the record. Maybe he should take the pitcher's underwear that he was wearing when he threw that pitch?

People are often escorted down to the clubhouse after a historical ball is hit. i remember a few years back when frank thomas hit his 500th home run in the metrodome, him and the fan went to the clubhouse and the fan was offered a few autographed things for the ball, sure the fan has the option of keeping it but it's nice when they give it back.

True story= My brother, cousin, friend, and myself took the game winning field goal ball from the Michigan Vs. Appalachian State game. Right before App state kicked the field goal they were having trouble getting the net up. They wound up not being able to get the net up all the way and the ball sailed right over the net. When the ball came into the stands fans kept throwing it higher into the stands. My friend and I nabbed the ball and chucked it up higher. My brother some how grabbed it and threw it to my cousin who was standing down in the tunnel in the stands and then sprinted back to the tailgate. The ball still sits in his basement, but we dont know wether its bad or neat having the ball from the worst upset in sports history!

That's pretty cool. A local guy, Coco Hillary is the WR that caught the last TD for App. St. He was a badass QB for a local high school. We went to a high school game just to watch Hillary against Dakota Watson (currently the best defensive player at Florida State).

Regardless of who has the actual ball, the ball that the girl has is the one worth money. Because now it's well documented that SHE has the actual ball. Howard probably does have the real ball, but he can't claim he does nor sell it as the real one.

Oh yeah, well I have a ball that I bought at the sporting goods store. It's bound to be worth millions.
