You could probably save a few bucks if you already had a decent clutch set up. Unless the splines are different. I get having a down car sucks. But spending money twice isn't the best way to go. But then who knows, you might get this set up and be happy with it.

I get you man. Its a gamble. A crap shot. All one can do is set themself up best as they can and roll the dice. Might just come out a winner. Time will tell. Thats just life sometimes.

If its still in good shape when I save up for the T56 Magnum, then I can sell it (the MT82) and the shifter, clutch and driveshaft after I pull it all out to do the swap. Maybe make some money back towards the swap. I did get some good discounts on the clutch and the trans this time around, and still get the core money back once I send in the old MT82 too. Put that in the bank towards the T56 swap. But I just couldn't afford to put that much money towards this car at the moment.

These are the whole swap. Trans, clutch, flywheel, driveshaft, harness, pilot bearing. Then your gearing changes with the Tremec too so a lot of people are having to regear the rear end after. Figure another $700 at least for that. Probably closer to a grand with labor prices being what they are nowadays.
Have you thought about rebuilding it yourself? The link doesn't include gears but I think it has most everything else except shift forks and such. I'm flirting with the idea.

Nah man. These MT82s are a bit-- and a half. Most shops don't even want to rebuild them. Need like a 50 ton press. And I think its beyond my mechanical capabilities. If I even had a decent local shop willing to do it for a decent price, I'd take them my old one after they pull it out. But thats pretty much all the stuff Calimer puts in them anyways. This video pretty much covers it though If you think you can tackle it yourself. Give it a go and let us know how it goes. Maybe you can make some money and become our go to builder.

Transmission and the fluid arrive today. Less than month after ordering (ordered 10/10). Out for delivery by Fedex today. Probably Fedex freight for the trans. I had it delivered to my job since I'm in charge of receiving parts and we have a loading dock and forklift. Monday I'll take the car, parts, and transmission all to the transmission shop for install. Tell them no rush on it, just call me when its ready. Same shop that did the transmission on my truck last year (lesson learned, no more burnouts lol). Shop is only about 1.5 miles from my job.

Transmission came in by FedEx ground. A lot smaller and lighter than I thought it would be. Crate was 32x22x19 inches. 140lbs. Looks good. I think its a newer one 2013+. Don't think I'll need the TOB spacer.

Probably just me and my trust issues but there's not a chance in hell I'd let a shop do the job. Especially since it doesn't sound like the car is your DD. You can pull it apart and take your time putting it back together.

I get that completely, and honestly that would be the smart thing to do. No one is going to do it as carefully and as well as someone who owns the vehicle. But I'll be honest, I live in an apartment and I tried put it on ramps in my neighborhood to change the fluid right when the 3rd gear issue happened and it was a mission with this car being so low. Even on ramps I could barely squeeze under it. This shop did my 6R80 on my truck and its been solid since. They are a very reputable transmission shop in my area and gave me a great price too. I went over all the parts and everything I need done and they said no problem. So I'm going to trust it to them.

Ahhhhh yeah I doubt you'd be able to get it out from under the car with it just on ramps.

I can be pretty abusive I guess. Lol. Bought my 2012 F150 Coyote at 75k. Many burnouts on 12.5 inch wide all terrains until about 120k miles. I think it was about 120k miles when the carrier bearing on the 2 piece driveshaft broke (its 157" wheelbase crewcab 6.5 foot bed), so replaced the driveshaft. But rear ubolts were loose due to rough country lift blocks breaking apart as well which might have contributed to that. I did a lot less burnouts after that, but a couple more here and there. 6th gear had started having problems at about 155k miles. And a few times it stalled when downshifting to 2nd or 1st. One morning it wouldn't go in gear easily, once moving it was fine and went through all the gears, but it didn't want to take off from a stop without stalling. It was about 165k miles when they replaced the trans in March of last year. Now I'm at 184k.

I was wondering why Calimer is the only shop building the MT82, at least that I'm aware of. I still have the one out of my 13, I think it was just the throwout bearing that went bad.

Well, probably another reason is no one wants to warranty them after building them either because they are just a weak setup from the go even with the upgrades. And most people are putting them in cars with 400-500+ rwhp and running them hard.

Another one I've seen mentioned for building them is Lashbrook Built Transmissions out of Oklahoma.

And looks like Allstate Gear which sells the rebuild kits also does their own rebuilds:

Another difference between the 2011-12 and 2013+ transmissions is that it appears the new ones don't have a cutout for the skip shift solenoid. Mine was already disabled anyways but shop just called me to ask about it.
