How to take of light switch??

I'm trying to remove my instrument cluster bezel to install an autometer one and some gauges, but I can't seam to figure out how to take off the light switch knob. When I turn the knob, I can see a slot in the shaft. It seams that you need to insert something in there to release it, but I am having no luck getting it to let go. I don't want to break anything. Any ideas?

Use a small screwdriver to press on the spring in that slot, and then you can pull the knob off.

Thats what I am thinking, but had no luck. Guess I'll try again. Just pissed off now cause took my h-pipe to get a bung welded on for a wideband, and my friend marked it wrong. Now the 02 hits the K member.
