Will this work on the Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-Back-Stainless Steel system although it's 409 Stainless?

409 will rust quickly. I would look for 304 stainless for polishing or get them coated.

Not saying you can't do it, but it will not come out the same.

That's why I'm putting this off as long as I can. The outcome is amazing, but the grunt work sucks.

Old thread, I know. However, I used this thread as a guideline to get my new Bassani 3" exhaust polished up this past weekend and wanted to share! This is a great write-up and helped me tremendously!

It took me about 15 hours total to get mine all polished up. In the beginning, I wanted to polish the whole exhaust, not just the part you see. However, I daily drive me Cobra, and it's had stock exhaust since I bought it back in April...SO I only polished what you can see and am going to put it on the car today! :p

    My experience polishing:
    * I didn't have the flapper wheel, but managed to get the imperfections of the mandrel bending out with the 100 grit by hand, it takes time, but can be done with patience and persistence.

    * I used 100, 220, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit. Take your time through each grit, when you think you've sanded enough with one grit....sand some more and then move on to the next. Make sure you sand out all the marks from the previous grit before moving on to the next, that ensures you'll only have the 2000 grit marks left in the end.

    * I bought the cotton wheels for the drill, but honestly hated using them. I actually ended up using my Torq Dual Action Polisher with the Mothers polish and Chemical Guys Heavy Metal Polish.

    * I sealed everything in with some JetSeal from Chemical Guys, so hopefully my 15 hours of work is protected from road debris.

I can't feel either of my arms, but it's totally worth it in the end... Great write-up OP, thank you for the assistance :)

Wow, Tiff, you did an excellent job. You're going to love the look from the rear after the pieces are installed. Hope you get feeling back in your arms today! LOL.

Don't bother doing the midpipe, the heat is so much higher there and the pipe will turn dark and begin to have a purplish color. I wasted so much time on my Xpipe and for nothing.

I wish I had the motivation to do my Stingers but the last exhaust system took the life out of me.
