I was on a 6wk business trip that was not going well, not sleeping well, and not eating well. This was just a few months after I moved to SC, had just lost 99% of everything I owned, and this job was my first real opportunity to rebuild. I wasn't in a very good frame of mind, grabbed the rental car keys, hurled my phone across the hotel room, and wanted to go on a 1-way drive somewhere. When I threw my phone, it bounced off the wall, landed in the corner and lit up. I walked over thinking it was someone calling, nope. Just a picture of a girl with a beautiful smile. A few days prior I had installed a dating app on my phone (not Tinder or anything like that) and hadn't paid it much attention. Apparently it popped up when I chucked the phone, not sure how, didn't question it. Her profile said she liked snakes and spiders. "Nothing to lose," I figured, and I sent some crappy message about how it was cool that she liked snakes (I used to have several large snakes as pets). She replied, for some reason, and we started talking about all sorts of random topics. It was nice to have someone to talk to while on this particular business trip, so I was looking forward to seeing the little blue ribbon pop up each time we exchanged messages. Two weeks go by, still living in a hotel room, and I get a message from her- she sent me her phone number. The area code was the same as where I had moved to. Turns out, she lived just a few miles from me (didn't know, hadn't checked). A day after I returned from the business trip, we had our first date. Her pictures hadn't done her justice at all. Going on 6 years of marriage now.
