Long story short, I went for a swim on Saturday with my kid. I forgot that my phone was in my board shorts pocket and well.... it died.

I have the replacement phone already, using the old SIM card and SD card. Unfortunately, from April 2020 to January of this year, all my picks were stored on the phone storage. Most importantly, they are pics of my daughter's birth and the next 8 months of her life.

To say those pictures are priceless is an understatement.

Is there any way to recover these pictures of the dead phone on my own? Recovery soft waa are recs?

Or is this going to be a professional recovery?

Did you check to make sure your google account didn't back those pictures up? If so they should be retrievable from your Google account

I checked, stopped auto saving from my phone from like 6 years ago. I cant say that Ive ever actively used it... but I may change my stance based on what happened.

Normally I would say pull the battery and put the phone in rice for a few days but the battery is not removable anymore.

Still maybe put it in rice for 3 or 4 days to dry out then try to power on again.

I've saved many wet phones with rice and a handful of silica gel packets in a zip lock bag. The silica gel works wonders. Even better if you have an Eva-Dry laying around.

Well, a bit of an update. I tried an Asurion partner to attempt to resurrect the phone for data recovery. No luck.

It seems that if the onboard data is still salvageable, it's going to need to go to a more.... thorough data recovery specialist.

There is a good chance I'll just buy the replacement phone outright and keep the old one.

Lesson learned.

Big reason why I store everything thru Google Photos. Also lost pics myself years ago thru a stolen phone. Never again.

Leave phone off for a while and try it again? Very possible the battery is the one that is completely dead. Does it charge? Even internal batteries can be replaced, wont be as easy but still doable.
