Help diagnosing noise

So I’ve posted this on two other forums and nobody could help me figure it out (no offense to anyone) but there seems to be a lot of tech on here so I’ll post it here. This is my 02 gt. I bought it back in September of 2015 and it has sat for at least half the time I’ve owned it because I got sick and have other cars. Last year I think it was it sat for a good month or so without being started so I threw in a new battery and started her up and took her for a spin. I know it sounds crazy (you’ll see what I mean) but it did not make this sound prior to sitting.

Anyway, it’s been making that sound ever since. I’ve only put maybe a mile or so on it trying to diagnose/pinpoint the noise but that’s it. I’ve narrowed it down to the driveshaft or rear end. Its not the transmission because it is speed dependent not rpm dependent. At low speeds is a whirring noise almost like its scraping at a certain point in its rotation (whether its the drive shaft or rear) but the wierdest thing is that it won’t do it in 4th unless I’m decelerating or going over a bump. So it seems that suspension compression has an effect so maybe pinion angle? It is lowered on Steeda Sports. Does anyone have a clue?

try looking at your u joint at the end of your driveshaft on both ends and see if its rusty or stuck at all because from your explanation and video, it sounds like something is binding and cannot spin freely. also check trans/diff mounts so check if they are blown out cause that can cause things to be off center and also not spin freely. I would also recommend to jack the rear end up and put it on jack stands, and while the car is in neutral, try and prin the back wheels with your hands to see if the noise is still present. update me after doing so if you are able to cause this is intriguing

It might be a few days, Friday through Saturday are my long days, sunday is recovery lol.

What stumps me is why is the noise gone in 4th. Is it because the pinion angle doesn’t change much because the 1:1? I’m just spitballing. But I can tell you it’s not the transmission. Its speed dependent not rpm dependent so it has to be after the trans. And since it’s only under certain conditions I’m thinking driveshaft to rear gears area.

I originally thought that too but I called a tech at Sean Hanlon and even he said he doesn’t know what it could be. It could be but I don’t know. What do you think it could be?

You noticed when I put it in 4th as I let out the clutch it started to make the noise until the clutch was all the way out? It could be a combination of things. I know the tob is making a tiny bit of noise so it could be dry but that wouldn’t explain the noise entirely since its speed dependent. Quite odd.

Unless you're clutch is adjusted wrong and your TOB is touching the clutch fingers all the time.

Could be. When I had it on the street a few years ago I remember after driving for a few mins it would have a slight squeal until I pushed the clutch in slightly. Its gotten a tiny bit worse but it doesn’t scream like it needs to be replaced. Eventually it will be replaced though. But that’s besides the point. But I appreciate you catching that.
