Does anybody have a ballpark figure on how much the 99+ headswap would cost in labor? That would have a big impact on how soon I can do it. Thanks in advance....:)

Joel, I think the PP? heads are $1500.00, parts. I have no idea how much a shop would charge you to install them...

Most say 50+RWHP...Cobra territory :-D

Jimbo, GR8WHITE left a link in another thread the SHM website where there was a package that included everything I needed for $1350. Not a bad deal really. Just wondering what the labor would be. Thanks for the reply!:D

Joel, figure the labor to get down to the heads, prep for new heads without any parts, is about 5 to 6 hours including the rebuild time.

So 6 times $60-70/hr.

Good estimate, I am doing it right now on my 87.

Good luck

Thanks Adam!

I guess that's not too bad. For the gains in horsepower I think it would be worth it. That would still be less than half of the cost of a supercharger, not including the labor for installing one of those. Paying someone to do it would probably be worth it as it would save me a lot of time and cussing if I tried to do it myself. It sounds like it would be a little more complicated than just an OHV head setup like on the 5.0.

I want that 10:5 compression baby!:rolling:

Joel, I am sure if you leave the engine work to the specialists, they will leave the cookie selling up to you:lol:

It can be a bitch if you don't know what you are doing.

If you do it, get the Fel pro lockwire gaskets, they are very strong.

I heard that! I had a mechanic that would charge me more when I would bring it in after I tried to fix it...more than if he had done it himself...

Absolutely. The lower 99+ intake has much larger ports where it feeds the heads than the 96-98's do. The ports are actually a different shape also.:rolling:

I have another question. Will the motor and exhaust sound much different with the higher flowing heads and new cams?
