Wiring them to the dome light will only light them when the dome light is normally on, such as when unlocking the car or when the door is open. I'd suggest using the switched power to radio head unit instead. It is a lot easier to get to being that it is behind the head unit. This is a good place to put the LED controller if you think of going with something other than just straight white. Another thought I had back in the day was to wire it up with the intercooler pump. It wouldn't light up until 5 minutes into the drive, but the wiring would be a whole lot more simple since you are already starting under the hood (no need to wire through the firewall). For my car - what I did is I wired it using a relay as follows: The switched radio would switch the relay to pull power from the lighter. If it was off, then it would pull power from the dome light. What this does is allows me to unlock the car and enjoy the demon eyes as I walk up to it. Then once I switch it on it pulls power from the lighter and stays lit. When I shut it all down it goes back to power from dome light, which is off, so the lights go off as well.
