My head gaskets are slowly leaking coolant and I am having it repaired soon.

My question is if it is a good idea to replace the timing chains/guides/tensioners while this is being done, and what modifications I could make to gain power while keeping the car reliable. I dont have 1200 to spend on cams, but I was thinking about studs and little things to make it stronger.

Depends on what your plans are for the car. If thinking F/I then may want to go forged internals. aka a rebuild..but that will be more than $1200.

how did you blow a head gasket? overheating? Engine may need more than simple head gasket replacement..

To get the most out of what you have, degree your oem cams while you are in there.
March UDP set and damper would be good to put in as well while you are in there.

Maybe you could have NASVT modify your intake to a SRI, especially if you do plan to do NA cams someday..

On a stock engine studs are a waste of money. Putting a psi number on when studs are required is useless, different situations may need them at more or less boost.
