To me the red dot on a handgun is a novelty. Mine is a Walther PDP with the Trijicon RMR and it's a pretty cool setup. But it won't be one of my carry self defence weapons, I feel it would complicate the situation for me in a real life scenario. Maybe a bedside gun because of the low to no light but for now it sits in the safe until I go to the range.
Here is how I roll....bedside gun is H&K VP9 iron sights with a nice light. Carry is a H&K P30, hammer, no safety, condition 1, iron sights, Favorite range gun is a H&K VP9 with some work done to it and Red Dot. I have a Beretta 92 loaded, chambered, safety off sitting right inside my gun safe in case I'm ever directed to open it. I have a few others around the house.

I firmly believe a Red Dot with practice would make anyone more proficient than they ever could have been with iron sights. For a carry, would you put in the time to do so. The bigger question is do the pros of the red dot win over the cons FOR YOU.

Things that you have to take into account with red dots....it has to be zeroed, you have to maintain the battery, it is more fragile than iron sights, will the glass fog up, will you be able to find the dot in a life and death situation, will it fail, will it lose its zero, how much does it obstruct the target over iron sights, how does it perform in rain, in what environment would light impact the optic negatively.

Now these are things I think of that could go wrong. Now I don't know that I would have an issue with any of those. But I owe it to myself to ask them and say to myself is it worth having a better shot and am I going to train enough to even make me more proficient in the first place.

With all that being said...sigh....this is my opinion and where I am currently in my proficiency with red dots and iron sights. I am totally fine with anyone that has difference in opinion on where they are in their proficiency. My views could change with growth as they have in the past.

I don't have the practice time with the red dot to feel comfortable for carry, pretty much because of the reasons you mentioned. Possibly in the future, I just wanted to see what all the rage was about so I put the Walther combo together and I'm glad I did it's a fun combo. One of my carry weapons is the H&K P30sk v1 LEM with night sights, I love it for a compact gun. I always carry condition 1 no safety.

LOOOOVE H&K. I had a ton of M&P's and sold all them but one. Really left hand friendly which helps a little.

It's a cool little gun, they look and shoot nice. For now it's my only HK. My dad is from Czech Republic (he was actually from Czechoslovakia) and I don't have a CZ in my collection so i've been looking to add one of those next. Partially because i'm part Czech and they make nice quality firearms. So many nice weapons in the market it's so hard to make a decision.

Anything I carry is all iron sights. I have a few red dots one a couple of the long guns and that's about it.

I have a trigicon RMR sitting in it's case that's never been mounted and I'm not sure I will ever use it.

You exactly mirror my thoughts on the subject.

I don’t shoot my P2000SK or P30SK anywhere near as good as my Glocks or FsNs. They don’t shoot bad for square range fun at all though.

Damn now I want to do some shooting when I get home lol

It was between the Beretta 1301, M4 and Mossberg 940. Roughly a grand, 1300 and 2 grand. After lots of videos I opted for the Marine tried and true M4. Already have about 4 upgrades planned. No range time yet...but reviews are all great.

I just ordered the M4 LE model. What mods should I do? It is already 7 round and appears to come with an upgraded foregrip.

Upgrading the safety button as well as bolt release are popular items.

Very nice, i loved my p30sk. I ultimately decided to go with the vp9sk. The one HK i regret getting rid of was a USP Compact in .45. Ill never forgive myself for that lol

I’m down to 2 now.

What gun belts do you guys recommend for appendix carry? Id like the front of the belt to be a single layer when the belt is on so it's as thin as possible. My current is double thickness from the middle to nearly my 2-3 oclock since it overlaps for the velcro to secure. It must be infinitely adjustable like my current velco belt because I wear one belt everyday no matter if I carry or not.
