So altogether I served 21.5 years. I was in the Army before the Navy for the 1.5 and you are VERY welcome. As far as being a SAMI it happened like this. I was on sea duty and I ran the Armory so I was responsible for all the weapons, Force Protection Gear, Nigh Vision, RSL's, Magazines, Ammo, Gun Mounts, etc etc. They for whatever reason sent another E6 to SAMI school. Now we were homeported in Ingleside, Texas and the small arms instructor school was in San Diego. For one of our inspections we needed to have this NEC and needed to be able to train our crew. So this other E6...was grossly overweight and not the brightest tool in the shed. When I reported to the crew he had just been busted down to an E5 for falling asleep on watch in the Captain's chair on the bridge...by the Captain. Sitting in the Captain's chair is a huge NO NO. Literally all the departments were run by an E6 and this guy and one other guy didn't run shit. Maybe that is why they sent him, dumb reason. So I get a call from him a few weeks later and he tells me he just failed out of school. So on the average it's a 33% failure rate. I told him he needed to call Chief and let him know. The CO of the ship managed to get him into the next class 2 weeks later. He calls me about that day and tells me he failed out of the entry test and that was it. I said, call Chief. Kid you not, 5 minutes later the Commanding Officer is screaming my name throughout the ship. He said pack your shit you're headed to California and do not Fu*king come back unless you have that Fu78ing NEC! So I fly to Vegas the hub and my plane left without me, swear I was legit. I had to get a rental car and drive the rest of the way. I drive throughout the night, get there just in time to shave and change into my uniform. Despite being absolutely exhausted I made 100 on the entry test, basic shit. I passed every test after that for multiple weapon systems and passed all the range time with ease. But I sure watched others fail out. My time in the Army and running the Armory helped me a good bit no doubt. The only thing they ever said to me was to pull my handgun from the Isosceles and not the Weaver before I started my way through the course of fire. So that school covered the M9 Berretta, M500 Mossberg, M14, M16. It also covered some pilot handgun that was pretty much only made for right handed people. I literally had to cant the weapon sideways to remove the safety with the opposite hand. I didn't go through the school but I also taught Crew Served Weapons to my crew. Our ship had twin .50's, M19 Grenade launchers and M240B machine guns. Now the M240 is an amazing weapon, love it and maintenance was cake compared to a .50. So yup...maybe trained a couple hundred people after that before I retired. The best man at my wedding was also the non lethal weapons instructor of the ship and worked just under me in the Armory. He made this gun happen for me at my retirement. Stellar Guy.
Thanks for the great back story. So you started off in the Army and switched to the Navy. That's probably not a usual thing, but interesting that you did it. Does sound like your 20 years in the Navy was rewarding for you. Any special reason why you decided not to go 30 years for retirement? You get 50% of your highest 3 years base pay, right? Retiring at 30 years would get you 75% of your highest average 3 years base pay.

Maybe just adding a sling, changing out the buttstock and forearm release, adding a shell holder. Home defense more than anything. I have not shot this one yet, still a Virgin. My Naval command chipped in and gave this to me at my retirement ceremony. Very familiar with the platform as I was a small arms instructor in the Military however.
If you were an instructor id assume you know to see what you like and dont like about that.

Anyway, I put a magpul stock on on my mossberg 500 and I don't see what's the big deal with them. The only thing it has done for me was get FB likes in Mossberg FB groups. As for home defense, I have no comment on that. That isn't an option for me.

That looks like a DD M4A1… not a M4 V7… nice piece either way.
Yeah I have a DD M4V7 it doesn't have the A2 front site. It is a nice AR. I got a Sons of Liberty Gun Works 11.5 upper and for now just put it on my DD lower. I'm going to get the lower that is for the 11.5 and the upper camo Cerakoated. I just did this to see it complete. The butt stock is a SBA4.

My daniel defense is weird compared to yalls. I did the build a rifle thing when the obama gun panic hit. I just chose whatever options they had that looked cool. I do regret getting a pinned 14.5" barrel since that means i cant easily change the flash hider out.

No A2 FS and it also comes with the MFR (M-Lok) rail system instead of the RIS II, which is what he is showing in that photo…

Post some pics you you have them all done!

I've been going back on for the between and m4 and a 1301

Sent from my SM-F711U using Tapatalk
I was too.

I chose the 1301, as it is just as good and a lot cheaper that what M4's are currently going for. I picked up the Beretta for $1340.

My 1301 came with a 7rd tube, Mesa Tactical pistol grip stock, and good sights. After adding a side saddle, foregrip, and CROM from Aridus Industries, sling, light and Holosun, I'm at the price point of a basic M4. Most I've seen are between $2200-$2400.

Which 1301 did you go with? I've read the comp version has a larger loading port

I know what the Military uses and only in its stock form. When it comes to aftermarket parts, another ball game.

Anyone on here have that Bul Armory Hunter 6 1911? Very seriously considering that as my next pickup. Thing looks awesome. Have quite a few 1911s already but another never hurts.

I hated the stock grip and even a brace. I just did a form 1 a week ago. I hope you find a system that works for you. I couldn't.

If my gun didnt pattern so stupid high, it would just have a stock, that is it.

What trigger setup did you go with? I installed a basic 922(r) trigger/hammer/disconnector from FFT, but I wouldn't be opposed to something a little lighter and cleaner.

Almost all my other guns have a Geissele trigger of some sort so I am a little spoiled with good triggers.

Crazy small world. I was the General Manager at Gulf Copper - Corpus Christi managing phase maintenance for the MCMs, MHCs, and projects on the Inchon. Was there 1999 through early 2000.

Dont know if you have been back to that part of the world in a while, but you would not recognize the base. Has been converted to a oil storage facility. Some of the old buildings are around like SUPSHIP, etc, but most of the base buildings are gone.

I think our old floating drydock is down at Aransas Pass Harbor Island facility near the ferry.

Small World Indeed, spent many yard periods in Gulf Copper. I got to the base when the Inchon was still around. I lasted a year there before I took the Raven and Cardinal to the Middle East on the Heavy Lift ship. I recall there being two yards we mostly went to. I've seen pictures of the base now and yeah it is crazy different and kinda depressing actually. I was on the USS Chief and we and another ship were the first to leave the base for San Diego.

Yes, then you would really appreciate the Briley match trigger on this gun. Extremely light and a very short crisp break. It's a world of difference. They offer a short and long LOP, I went with the short (factory).

I have it in an A&S enhanced frame which is a really nice piece and compliments the trigger well; it's billet and made to a tighter spec than the factory polymer housing. It also has a loading ramp. My safety button is a Roth performance oversized.

You can still find OEM aluminum trigger guards too, which they originally came with before switching over to the polymer type.

oh and I also have a FFT extended carrier and an A&S reduced effort safety spring in the pack too
