I have. I shot the M9 occasionally in the Air Force and have owned a Beretta 90-Two and PX4 Subcompact.
So you're definitely not a stranger to the Beretta. I should have picked that up in your post where you said it was good to own a Beretta again. I read it too fast. Beretta makes such good looking guns.

gen 3 I say. Reason for a 10mm? That’s a lot of cartridge to handle. If you’re familiar with firearms and own a decent collection I can see it.

It is for hiking in mountain lion and elk country and I don't want to bring my 10mm nighthawk. I had a 20 before I sold off my glocks but cannot recall if it was a gen 4 or gen 3. I think it may have been a 4 that I converted over to a 3 recoil spring that I had custom made to shoot my hot 10mm loads.

So you’re Very familiar with firearms lol. Gen 3 kinda the sweet spot in my eyes. Can change parts a lot better. Doesn’t need much to make it to your taste.

I've got a recently purchased used Gen 3 Glock 20SF, haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. They guy I bought it from said the Gen 3's were the most reliable, of course he said that because that's what he was selling. My research prior was people either loved of hated the difference in grips between the gen 3 and 4 and I think the Gen 4 had a larger mag release and different recoil spring. Can't go wrong with either one, I was just looking for the best deal.

Thanks. Which is the stronger spring?

I don't know that either spring is stronger- The gen 4 has a dual recoil spring vs the gen 3's single spring. I've heard it's easier to upgrade the gen 3 spring. I've also read that the gen 4 without the backstrap is the same size as the gen3 SF.

My local gun shop had an AR pistol when I was in yesterday. I was gonna get it, but bought a UTS15 instead.

We just picked up some upper kits and a few lower kits, few different barrel lengths and one of my techs built them all one afternoon during a slow day in the shop lol. I personally have under 400 bucks in mine. Next on the list is a .308 shortie.

not sure about strength, both are +p rated and built like tanks, it would be single spring g3 vs dual g4
But you will likely notice softer recoil with gen4 system on a 10mm. I have shot a lot with a gen3/4 on the g23/g31's and the g4 guns were not as snappy. On a 9mm its very negligible.
If you plan to keep it stock out of the box, + 1 for the gen4 - it has a more ergonomic mag release, much better frame texturing, and as mike said comes standard with the slim frame dimensions

The one in the shop was $600 with no optics
