GT500: Modded to Boss Handling?

Hello all,

I got a buddy and fellow forum member who sees no real advantage to a '12-13 Boss over a GT500. His perspective is that you can mod a gt500 to pick up the handling, etc to match the Boss but unless you are going supercharge the Boss it will always be slower (body kit and collectability aside as well). Ergo: why get a Boss?

Thoughts? Can a gt500 be modded to match the handling and cornering of a Boss? Or will it always fall a bit short because it lacks the same balance and has more weight?

Thanks!

He's right, if you ignore physics...or equal budgets. I would rather mod a Boss.

Ehh, a 2011-2012 gt500 used and a 2012 - 2013 Boss (also used) go for around the same price ... ish, depending on miles, but for the sake of argument lets say its close.

It depends on what kind of driving the car will see: Autox, 1/4 mile, street runs, canyon carving... But we can start with the basics.

Without FI, the boss will not make the same power even a stock GT500 is making (the model years listed above for comparison sake), and even if the PEAK numbers were the same, in NA form the power band would be nowhere near as strong. So lets say you drop 7-10k on a blower or turbo set up.

Suspension on the other hand, badass coils: $2500, Whiteline Watts link: $800, sway bars and other various things: $~500 ... I feel suspension is a LOT cheaper to come across than horsepower, because at the end of the day you're still talking about a 400 lb difference, but the ZL1 Camaro still handed the Boss its ass around a track...

You can make a GT500 handle very well but it takes a little money and knowledge to do so. Until you drive a Boss and GT500 back to back he will never understand how they both do and do not work. In the end its all about your budget and if the budget allows then yes you can make any car handle well.

That's not an unfair comparison with both used...but it's going to take way more than that on a GT500 to make it handle like a Boss with a centri. 'Badass' coils are more like $5k+, and you have to have wider wheels and tires on top of that. Not to take away from the GT500, but it's like carrying two passengers ALL THE TIME...

Wait about 5 laps in the warm weather. ..after heat soak sets in, the boss will have the advantage.
