I love seeing the GT350’s from Gary Jones Motorsports, Cobra Automotive, etc in action on the vintage race circuit. The 65-66’s are by the far the most common GT350’s on the track and it seems that most people don’t realize that the 67’s were also raced back in the day. Below I’ve attached some pics of 1967 Shelby’s racing in the late 60’s. I own a 1967 GT350 basketcase that I believe I would like to build into a period correct vintage racecar. When I mentioned this to a local restorer he highly suggested that I refrain from doing this. What do you guys think?...

although, I can understand why someone would suggest not to. If it has no transam or anyother prior race history, it is worth alot less. But your suppose to enjoy the car and not save it for the next owner

Great pics. I love seeing those old Trans Am shots. I have one hanging on my wall of Ken Miles... tearing around the Riverside track in the #98 Cobra. Good stuff!

Lets see a shot of the old Shelby you have.

Make a racecar out of it...I've had them both ways and the racecar is twice the fun....There is a 67 or 68 Shelby that shows up at Road America sometimes and it's a good looking racecar, I also saw one at the auction out at Monterey year before last that looked cool. You just don't see many that year but they are cool......GJ

X2, forget about restoring it as a show car, far too many waxer owned performance cars out there already not being utilized for what they were built for (I am an ex waxer and show car judge). Build it up the way you want to, take it to the track, beat the hell out of it as your heart desires.

If I'm not mistaken doc your little coupe isn't on the track, is it?:poke:

Well sorta. We had a double-yellow after a guy hit the wall on the main straight while warming his tires. The pace car was bringing us down pit road twice while they cleaned up the mess. A guy got my picture from the second floor of the tower.

Gary even let me pose for a picture in front of his rig. :-D

He says I have to pick up my speed before I get to park under the awning. ;-)

They brought the car that Gary prepped and finished well in Mexico this year.
