Not sure if this has been posted. First couple mins Adam is explaining what happens and the actual footage thereafter. Don’t follow up on the GT350’s to know this is an issue but other owners here might find this useful.

I always laugh when we can skip through a song but can’t skip through a video.

I used to follow his channel but haven't in a while. He has the mustache because his ex wife hated them and he started growing it after she left him. I am still waiting for the "burn to ground part" as I was expecting a full on blaze.

What year is the car, because there was a recall on the 2015-to early 2017 cars for an oil cooler clamp fitting.
If it came off hot oil would spray and the car could / would catch on fire.

I originally had a 2017 Ruby red ordered, that when it came in was part of the recall and the dealer could not sell it to me, the car sat in the showroom for 6 months waiting for the new parts.

needless to say I told them I didn’t want it.

His might be in that same year range. He mentioned in the video newer cars don’t have that issue, like 18s & 19s. So I’m assuming it’s 15-17.

I watched the whole video. I thought it was very informative and covered just about everything leading up to, during, and after the fire. The driver was smart and composed to keep the video going as it ended up being evidence to support the owner's claim about the oil filter failing. It did help get a settlement quicker as both Ford and the dealership helped him and were professional throughout. Hopefully some early GT-350 owners will benefit from both his loss and his advice, if they don't already know about the filter issue.

Yeah, it's a pre-2018 GT-350. So there was an actual recall on the oil cooler clamp fitting apparently. One question I have was if there was a re-call, wasn't he notified? He should have been. If he was, why didn't he take it back for the fix? And how effective was the recall fix, vs. converting to a cartridge setup? o_O

I guess it would depend on if he bought the car new or used as to whether he knew about the recall or not ?

I went through until I found the part he talked about the issue. He said the dealer did the oil change and "bc of harmonics the oil filters back off, causing the seal to blow out" and he shows a pic of the seal hanging out, so I don't see how this has anything to do with a fitting/clamp.

Part of the oil clamp issue solution was also the mid cycle change from a spin on filter to a cartridge filter in I think 2018

he's only had 1 GT350, the same thing happened to him on the same car at the same track about a year ago where the oil filter became loose/gasket failed causing it to spray oil into the brakes and he lost the front driver brake causing him to slide off the track, luckily he wasn't driving it too hard at the time so it didn't catch on fire then. he took it to a ford dealer afterwards to get the oil changed so they could properly torque the oil filter.

the oil filter on these has to be torqued to 16-18ft-lbs and probably has to be checked every once in a while, which ford sent a torque wrench and an oil filter to the original owners of these cars sometime in 17 and then changed the design to cartridge style. the kit to change it to cartridge style is around $500. this affected 16-early 17 GT350's(i believe up to January of 17). the oil clamp recall was for a different issue with the oil cooler lines.

Yeah the spin on filters need to be torqued, I would check mine from time to time but it never moved.

For anyone who has ever put an oil filter on a car, it's extremely weird to put one on that tight. It feels wrong while you're doing it.

I have seen guys put a large hose clamp on the filter and safety wire it, which would probably be bullet proof at that point. General aviation aircraft have been doing that for a long time due to the vibrations caused by the prop.
