I'm in the s.e. michigan area if any one can make a good reccomendation.

So I called dts and priced it at 175. Then he tells me I have to pull the housing disassemble every thing to have it done for 175

They then quoted me 350 to drop the axle another 250 for disassembly plus 175 to weld it up!

I searched and read several had it done with the axle in the car. I just need to get pointed in the right direction of a good place.

Wow that's unfortunate, there is now way I can afford for my car to be down a day, so I guess I'm not racing then.

if anyone knows of any shops that do it in car post or pm me

I had a friend weld mine up in the car for $120. Then I swapped out the fluid.. All good!

Had to take time preheating the weld area evenly so it would not cause warping after.. Or cracks. Made several drag strip launches w sticky tires after no issues.

Put a CHE brace on. If you weld without checking for axle true, silly.

Wow that che brace looks good. Never even heard of that before.

so I would just buy the che brace and install it without welding the tubes?

Correct. If you can turn a wrench and drill a hole, you can do it yourself.

weld it yourself on the car. Its not easy but can be done.

I did mine and took about 30 minutes to do it. No braces, no funny business. Took a wire brush and brake cleaner to get surfaces as clean as possible... turned machine up as high as she would go (220 lincoln portable machine) and let it rip.

Welding Steel to cast takes some pre heating. If you just weld it in your garge on jack stands, it will just crack sooner or later. The best time to do it is when changing gears or posi units.

I don't recommend just welding them in the car. Because chances are, the housing isn't straight to begin with. 8.8's need to have the tubes welded and the housing braced.

To do it correctly (IMO), it needs to be done as follows;
Removed from car
Disassembled
Weld tubes to center
Jig and straighten
Mock braces & tack
Re-check straight
Weld braces
Reassemble and reinstall

I did mine in the car and it did not warp anything. Just do small passes and let it cool off in between welds and you are good. People think way to much into this.

I agree. I was a welder for many many years and there are things you do to minimize warpage. A decent welder should have no issues. Bring it to someone who just does some welding as a hobby and you may run into issues.
