Heres a shot of my 93 Lightning.

Do these 99 lightning wheels just bolt up and don't have to change anything ? Also what suspension you got on this truck ? SWEET ride !

The 2nd one....a '94 SuperCab conversion

The 3rd one....a '93 SuperCab conversion. This one is a project and it is also the original Full Effect conversion. This one belonged to the owner of Full Effect, thus it's number zero of 15 known to be converted by the company.

The 4th one. Another '94 but this one has a Hurst shifter stickin' up outa the floor. The stick is attached to a TKO600 5-speed box. Yeah, it's fun !

scriced, do you have a write-up for the TKO conversion? That's my only complaint with the truck. I want to shift gears so bad...

Yeah, rowin' the gears is just more fun. Not quicker at the drag strip and not fun in day to day traffic but I grew up with 4-speeds when automatics were a no no so for me "rowin' the gears" is just more fun....!

Here's a link to a guy that did the conversion and did a decent job of documenting it with pictures. This guy put the shifter in the middle location on the trans and has a pic of it showing the location on the trans as well as a pic of the shifter in the truck.

5-speed Conversion Complete (long...lots of pics) - The National Lightning Owners Club Inc

I bought mine from a guy that did the conversion, it was the second one to be done of those that hang out at NLOC. The first one was done in southern Oregon and that person did all the R & D to get it to work. I still have his parts list that he used and I'll send ya that via PM.

There are some gaps here and there in both the install link and parts list so do a search on NLOC as well for 5 speed or manual transmission in the Gen 1 forum. That should give you enough reading for a bit and fill in some of the gaps.

That is one of my winter projects to change the shifter location to either the middle or back location on the trans. The forward most location is too far forward for me. Either of the rear locations are too far back and would require modifications to the seat frame to accommodate the shifter.

I'm actually a member over on NLOC. But it just seems like a bunch of nay-sayers for a manual conversion. "it's cost prohibitive" "the transmission won't last", blah blah blah. But I'll check it out. Thanks bro.

Nay sayers will always be around for a variety of reasons. Can't speak to the different gearboxes many talk about but the TKO 600 will stand up to the weight and torque of our trucks. Mine had a Vortech S-trim on it when I bought it and the previous owner flogged it quite a bit on the drag strip.

Just think heavy duty when selecting parts. It costs a bit and more Gen 1 owners than not won't or can't spend the bucks for serious changes.

It's already been done so that smoothes the way for you to do it if you so choose. KU engineer's thread is good for his approach to the job and his pics documenting.

I'm Skritch on NLOC and yet another name on LR. I'm left handed so I like to be different not keeping the same user name on all the boards, plus it can provide an interesting perspective sometimes as a "perceived noob".
