Hi, I’m new to the high octane world.

Is there anything I can do to prevent so much damn heat coming through the firewall and gearbox (especially) — or is this one of those welcome to mustang world moments?

** Currently no A/C here on the gulf coast of Tejas, gotten out of the car wobble legged a few times. (Getting fixed Monday)

Make sure the rubber seal is still mounted over the shifter. You'd be amazed how much heat that keeps out. The PO of my car hacked up the original when he installed the MGW. Lots of heat coming through there. I installed a new one and there was a big difference.

Beyond that you can look into some kind of insulation.

Normal. I used to laugh at my friend that got a metal shift knob for his new edge. He had to drive it with an oven mitt.

I'm often surprised how hot to the touch the console area of my car is. Even the face of the radio.
