I'm putting together an 8.8 solid axle for my Cobra. I'm trying to decide what gear ratio to go with. I'm torn between 3.55 and 3.73 primarily. For anyone that has a large twin screw such as a Whipple 3.4 or Kenne Bell Mammoth 2.8 and has a race setup (high boost/race fuel, automatic trans with trans brake, drag suspension, etc), what rear gears did you find that worked the best? My setup is a KB 2.8 Mammoth at 25psi, E-85, 300" stroker, ported heads, cams, 4L80E automatic w/ brake, 33 spline 8.8, full drag suspension, 325/50-15 MT drag radials, possibly a 100 shot of nitrous if needed. Looking to get this 3900 lb beast into the 9.30's-9.40's. I know there are gear calculators out there but they don't always lend to the best ET's for various setups. I figure the car is going to have to go 145mph. It should sixty in the 1.3's. On the street, on a 17" wheel (drag radial), 3.55's will definitely be better. At the track, I'm thinking 3.73's are the way to go. So, if anyone has done a very similar setup, especially if you changed them to find more ET, I would definitely appreciate it if you could share your findings on what gear ratio you settled on. Thank you.
