Well, it's time to redo the garage. I have no idea what I am actually doing, but I have a good idea of what I want, kind of... I only know what my budget is -> shooting for 15K, but would venture to 20K if needed.

We have an odd garage -- more of a garage in a garage. The original garage was under the house. A much larger garage was added later on. I have lots of space, but no real vision of what to do. The outer garage was built to house an RV. I need tool storage & organization. I would like air lines to be ran in both garages in multiple points. A small closet of some sort to house the air compressor (and keep it quiet) would be nice. I need 220 ran in multiple locations.

The inner garage is climate controlled. I would like to make it a small shop and rec room/mancave area. One wall of the inner garage can go if possible. There is a useless hallway that would add some considerable room if I can yank that wall out. I plan on keeping the garage door for now as I plan on storing my Shelby in there this year. I would also like to be able to pull cars in there to work on them during the summer months. I need a decent sink/bar built into the back area. Finally, adding a window in here is a possibility. Pending some more thought, adding in some sort of safe room for the family is in my mind -- maybe even an underground or hidden room. I imagine cost will keep this from happening.

Our house is somewhat odd design. An elevator was in the house before we bought it, so the hallways are kind of weird (esp in the basement). It has been removed, but you can tell where it used to be.

Things I currently like -- very tall ceilings. Excellent lighting throughout. Heavy duty floor to ceiling shelves in multiple areas. The outer garage is half underground, so it stays cool. The inner garage more so than that. It stayed cool enough in the inner garage that we did not use the standalone AC system in there at all this summer.

I plan on buying some Kobalt cabinets and shelves.

Things were kind of a mess when I started. From the main doors looking in.

And looking out.

Cleaned up some last weekend.

Looking into inner garage. The door to the right is the hallway I mentioned above. I would like that wall removed and the whole inner garage opening in a different way into the basement -- just not sure much would need done to do that.

My old foreman told me if you need to borrow a tool more than twice you need to buy one.. Get a lift. Good luck with the project, the final plan should be sweet.

Paint Booth all day. No way I could have that space and not have a walk in blast cabinet of some sort and a booth.

I agree on the blast booth, the lift, and at least making the smaller garage a part time paint booth.
But don't stop there. Get into doing some powder coating too. An inexpensive powder coat gun and a medium size, used, industrial oven would be a great start.
The lift would be your greatest single expense. A two post, asymmetrical lift would be the most useful to have. You could do suspension work, engine removals, trans and clutch replacements, and IRS work. Put it in the big garage, but place it where you could have a car up on it for a long time and still be able to get other cars in and out easily.
Try putting your 220 volt air compressor in a small, separate room with a fan to keep cool air from the outside flowing around it, but keep the sound out of your work area.

No paint work for me. Painting is not my thing. I really want the inner garage as a small shop/rec room area.

Lift is questionable. BUT -- I like the powder coating thoughts. I may use the outer garage for something like that. I have done small powdercoating stuff before. An oven ,blast cabinet, decent compressor, and such would not be that expensive. Great work area for it and it really doesn't take up a ton of space.

Anyone know of any decent deals going on for a large set of cabinets/work benches? I see Lowes and Sears once in a while has some pretty big package deals. Hoping to see more stuff on sale around Xmas time.

Your floors look pretty decent, but I agree on looking into RaceDeck flooring, or give the floors a good paint job. You'll be amazed at how a nicely painted floor will add to the overall beauty of the garage. And with a ceiling that tall, a nice lift is a no-brainer. So much potential to that space. Awesome garage!

A lift is being added now. I talked to a few people and for 2K installed, it is worth it. Getting an Atlas 9,000 pound semi-symmetrical lift. Def doing the powdercoating as well. Looking at ovens now...

The inner garage will be totally different and integrated into the basement rooms somehow. I am waiting on the drawings from the contractor that was here today.

Still contemplating storage and toolboxes.

Floor coverings are nice, just not sure what to use yet.

One thing I did in my garage that I am so glad I did was epoxy flooring. I used the Epoxy Coat system and from what I saw its the best kit on the market. It's 100% epoxy and no water based at all. Very very good product and goes on excellent.

I've had them on my floor for over a year now and they still look great. You can mop them, scrub them and they look new again. Oil, grease or anything just wipes right up.

Website was Epoxy Paint For Garage Floors – Epoxy-Coat.com I believe. But some Lowes stores carry the kit now as well.

It's been awhile. Had some family issues, now work issues, but getting back into it again.

Available space...

I finally broke down and bought the lift Friday. I went with the 10K pound lift, extra tall, extra wide with some nice accessories. I also bought a parts washer. Looking at some used big compressors now. It was a nightmare for two of us to get it out of the truck. Had to call a few friends over.

I went to Lowes with the intent of spending about 2500 on rail systems, cabinets, shelves, the works. Then this video changed my life. Now redoing everything this way. The kids are down in the garage with me and will be making their own tool boxes (see video). I always wondered how my Grandpa did this as a kid, finally putting it all together. I am doing the whole garage with tons of hooks for under 250 bux (including the stain I bought).

Custom Garage Storage

I will update as I go. I need to patch the walls, paint it Ford Service colors, figure out exactly where the lift goes, get the rail system up, then plumb the whole garage with air and hose reels. Leaving the floor as is for the time being.

Taking the advice of folks on here, we are getting a small powdercoating oven as well. The mancave idea is on hold for awhile until I free up some more time (maybe this coming fall).
