Relax, it's Reddit commenters. Everyone on Reddit is a dork.
That's mainstream opinion driving policies right now. This is the Republican Party's big downfall, they don't take cooks and crazies seriously until they're sitting in congress making policy, in the schools teaching our children that shit is normal, and in the media brainwashing the masses.

If it's just Reddit commentators you wouldn't be hearing the terms "living wage" constantly in the media and calls for $15 and $20 minimum wages.

It was a throwaway comment but by all means please type additional paragraphs

General Motors extends some plant downtimes but full-size pickup production is back to normal

  • General Motors (GM -1.6%) says it will extend the downtime at a plant in Michigan that manufactures the Chevrolet Bolt EV through September 26 due to the battery defect issue. The automaker is working with battery supplier LG Chem to fix the problem that could cause a fire risk. LG Chem is also being pushed to increase production of the new modules.
  • GM expanded a recall last month related to the battery issue to all Chevrolet Bolt EVs.
  • On a broader basis, GM extended downtimes at other plants due to a chips and parts shortage, but confirmed production of its full-size pickups will return to normal next week.
  • Shares of GM have fallen more than 10% over the last month to rank the near bottom of the auto sector for that stretch.

My wife and I tried to eat at a Perkins in Rapid City, SD this past Sunday. They were open Fri/Sat/Sun only due to labor shortage. We walked in during hours they were supposedly open. Manager met us and said sorry, we just closed, his wait staff decided it wasn't busy enough and walked out. Never seen anything like that.

How long can the owner afford to operate like that???????

"Surprisingly" the great democratic experiment failed.

China auto sales fall for fourth straight month amid chip shortages

  • Automobile sales in China fell off 17.8% in August to 1.799M vehicles in comparison to last year and were down 8.2% from the level for the same month in 2019, according to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
  • Major automakers like Ford (NYSE:F), Honda (NYSE:HMC), General Motors (NYSE:GM), Ford (F), Nissan (OTCPK:NSANY) and Toyota (NYSE:TM) have all curtailed production this summer due to the global shortage of semiconductors and other parts.
  • For the year, vehicle sales in China are still up 13.7% in the first eight months of 2021 against the pandemic comparable, but are only up 1.3% from the level seen in 2019.
  • CAAM now expects 2021 growth to be below the previous forecast of 6.5%,

Toyota further slashes production target as COVID-19 hits Southeast Asia supplies

  • Toyota Motor (NYSE:TM) decides to reduce its planned global production further by ~70,000 units in September due to the global shortage of semiconductors and other parts
  • Of these, 30,000 will be at Japanese plants, with the rest in the United States, China, Europe and other Asian countries.
  • The production cut for October would see 330,000 units adjustments, which will slash 150,000 units volume in Japan and 180,000 units overseas.
  • "Key reasons for the production adjustment include a decline in operations at several local suppliers due to the prolonged spread of COVID-19 in Southeast Asia and the impact of tighter semiconductor supplies," the company statement.
  • The automaker cuts its full-year production target to 9 million vehicles for the year ending in March, down from its 9.3 million forecast.
  • However, based on its current demand, the company says it assumes to maintain its production plan for November and beyond.

GM doubles forecast to 200,000 fewer vehicles due to chip shortage, maintains guidance

  • General Motors (GM +2.8%) says that, due to the semiconductor shortage, it is now expecting to produce 200,000 fewer vehicles in North America during the back-half of the year than the 1.1M vehicles it produced during the first half. That number is twice GM's original expectation announced in its August earnings call of 100,000 fewer units.
  • In spite of the reduction, CFO Paul Jacobson says that GM is "still going to deliver a year that’s higher than what we originally thought coming into January" and the company did not reduce guidance. He expects that supply chain inventories will be "more stable" in 2022.

Citroën CEO sees chip shortage lasting 'quite substantially' into 2022

  • CEO Vincent Cobée of French automaker Citroën called the car industry's current shortage of semiconductors a "very complex crisis" that will likely last "quite substantially" into 2022.
  • "Fundamentally, the whole supply chain is in a sort of chaos," he told CNBC on Friday.
  • The CEO, whose firm is a unit of Peugeot (OTCPK:pEUGF), noted that the global economy's uneven reopening following the COVID-19 pandemic has created "uncertainty on supply and demand."
  • Cobée added that 2020 represented a year of "agility, reactivity and volatility," while 2021 "presents its own dose of challenges."
  • As to Citroën's ability to manage the crisis, Cobée asserted that the company had taken steps to increase its visibility along the supply chain and could take advantage of the overall Peugeot (OTCPK:pEUGF) operation, giving it increased leverage with suppliers.
  • On the demand side, Cobée gave a bullish assessment, saying that orders are currently at "unprecedented levels."
  • Citroën is just one of many automakers that have faced supply constraints. General Motors (NYSE:GM) revealed this week that it was extending downtime at several assembly plants as a result of the chip shortage.
  • Meanwhile, another shortage forced GM to extend a shutdown of a Michigan assembly plant production the Chevy Bolt. In this case, the bottleneck relates to a lack of battery packs.
  • The chip shortage has led to a drop in auto purchases, as companies have had trouble meeting demand. However, famed investor Cathie Wood sees other reasons for the sales dip.

Understood. But who gets allocation priority? Who will get priority in the future?

I know the answer.

Pickups pay the freight at GM, Ford and Stellantis, hard to say they don't want those trucks at the dealerships, the dealers are howling for them.

Crazy if you ask me. But people are paying so the market continues to dictate pricing.

We just sold a 84' grand wagoner without an engine or interior for $4,500, an 83' Cherokee with no floor pans and 4 flats for $3,000, and a 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel for with 30,000+ miles $57,000.

Funny part is, we aren't having any problems sourcing chips for building computers being used to fulfill government orders. Weird, right?

No, not weird. PO's are coded to provide priority for some specific Government purchases.

Government pays top dollar for things they want. Im sure the priority on chips. Auto Manufacturers im sure are wanting to pay the least as possible to keep high profits.
