Hey all,
Just thought I'd share an experience with you all to prevent you guys from doing the same thing. Last year at MW, I had an unfortunate run in with the local law enforcement over a trivial matter. Down in Myrtle Beach, there is a city ordinance that states that it is illegal to race an engine(not a car...just the engine) for any purpose other than the diagnosis of a problem. I revved my engine up for a guy and his son that were admiring my car, as I thought they would appreciate hearing what it sounded like, and next thing I know I was surrounded by LEO's on bikes telling me to stop.

So note to all you out there...unless you want to pay a $262 fine to the city of Myrtle Beach for something SO pointless, keep the revving to a minimum.

the warning is good buy why is the ordinance "pointless"? you think the year long residents enjoy being woken up at all hours of the night by idiots with no respect for the public peace? I realize in your case it probably wasn't in the middle of the night but if the ordinance wasn't in place it would be going on all night every night.

Now if you are saying that revving your engine is pointless I would have to agree LOL! even tho I do it too.

Yah the cops do tend to hang out on the sides of the strip down there. Also on mountain bikes. They are everywhere. Best not to do anything stupid. I think the ordinance is a good thing in a way, keeps noise to a minimum eventhough most of the cars are loud at idle. Last year the cops were perched outside on the strip across from Holiday Sans South, things tend to get a little out of hand there.

were you with the dude with the SN95 GT with the Navigator engine sticking out of the hood? I freakin' loved that car, and I THINK I remember him being from CT too? LOL, I remember driving by on the strip and seeing MBPD putting it up on a rollback. When he showed up at the Speedway Fun Runs the next day, he still had the impoundment marking on his windshield LOL

That was a real 97 Cobra if I am not mistaken. He is on the site as well. Pretty sure he sold it?

How much you looking to spend for the week, how much room do you need.

"The Strip" (at least where most cruise) is N Ocean Blvd in MB from about 30th Ave N to 9th Ave N. It's bumper to bumper during MW and there is an anti-cruising ordinance in effect, so you can go back and forth all night.

to add onto what Sid said... the north end of Ocean Blvd has "nicer" hotels. A ton of hotels have been expanding & remodeling on the south end of Ocean Blvd, but there are still a few on that south side that are ummmm "less family oriented."

I'm also a fan of Garden City & Surfside Beach just to the south of Myrtle. It's where most of the rental houses are, and they are nice. You can get a whole house 1 block from the beach for a whole week for the same price you'd pay for an oceanfront hotel for 4 days.

I never understood why so many guys wanted to cruise up and down the BLVD; other than being slow and boring, it always encouraged all types of jackass-ery.

We stay in the Best Western Carolinian. Not cheap, but my wife and I both have bad backs and we don't take vacations if we don't have a ton of money to blow to really have a good time. When we were kids we'd drive down in the Cobra, sleep at a rest stop in NC in the non-reclineable race seats, and stay in a cheap motel. Not young anymore, screw that.

Who sleeps lol. Straight drive from Massachusetts, stops for gas and food. I just rented a house about 5 miles from the mall. Well worth it.
