Hell yeah, that 4225 curb weight is a bad ass marketing tool!

Im not sure anyone in Ford Marketing made it out of the 3rd grade. Really amazing, actually.

I agree in many ways with what you said, BUT that's not why I bought my 13 GT 500. I bought it because I wanted a Shelby, a big block, bad ass car that ripped it up on the street. I never plan on going to the track with it, road course or dragstrip. I drove a GT350 R at the Pocono Race track for 6 laps, the car has unbelievable handling, incredibly stable, etc, everything you would ever want in a track car !! EXCEPT it needed a supercharger, something to make it faster. So I started looking for a 13 GT500. 2k later in motor mods I'm at 702 at the wheels with 730 lbs of torque. That is what I wanted, stupid horsepower. Love the track capability from the new GT500 and GT350, just not exactly where I wanted to put my money

For those that are buying the new GT500 and intend to take it road racing... you have big balls or a large bank account.

    I’ll take that as a challenge :)
Still most interested in the street manners of this one and the potential of an 800rwhp combo with DCT/IRS and those huge brakes.

FWIW I think the car's gonna rip it up well. But its all the gnarly shit that can happen on a road course and beer-can a nice car quickly. Definitely look to see if anyone offers a track day insurance policy.

I have no doubts it will do well on a road course. No doubts at all.

I’m sure it will be hard on consumables though....

I paid the insurance with the idea of letting it rip at the GT350 Track Attack. I plan to do the same at the GT500 Track Attack and can't...****ing...wait.

Great history lesson. People have always done road racing in Mustangs, but most of those solid-axle cars you posted would get beaten by a stock ZL1 1LE with a competent driver. We'll see on the GT500. GT350R's perform marginally in their "intended" environment (the track not Cars & Coffee).

I agree that most people have never even considered trying the road course, but that is because they are driving straight-line-pigs that would require $1000's to not overheat or get beaten by a spec-Miata.

I'll tell you one thing, if you go around a road course, hitting 140-150 mph, you'll never drag race again.

Me personally,.........I think the GT500 is going to just well on both the track and drag strip.
Looking forward to the Youtube videos of this car on the drag strip. Not really much of a track guy.

Have you done autocross or road racing in a stock fox-body (drum brakes) or SN-95? You can make those cars whatever you want, but they certainly weren't built for it like some modern cars are.

The Boss 302 is a greatly under-rated car. I've seen them put down extremely good lap times for a 5+ year old car on an older platform with a solid axle. They still aren't "fast", but I think Ford built them for the track. You may not have been to track days lately, but there aren't too many Mustangs unless it is a Ford focused event. The cars aren't competitive against the Camaro on a road course for SS vs GT or ZL1 vs 350.

    I'm not bench racing.

The Fox chassis was pretty bad, let's be honest. Thanks to some fairly large production numbers and with the passage of time, the aftermarket has really delivered here. At least they were light.

That auto and 650 HP is like cheating and I bet the GT500 will be faster around like 4 like drivers

I'm not sure how it is cheating, but it is cheaper. I paid low 60's for my car. I had to go to a Mustang event to run into GT350's and I'm sure it will be 2022 before I see a GT500 at a Track Day or Time Trial.
