Well, you can celebrate today because those won’t be the only two years of GT production. That’s because Ford just announced that it was extending the supercar’s production cycle by two more years.</p><p></p><p>“While we can’t build enough Ford GTs for everyone who has applied, we are going to produce additional vehicles in an effort to satisfy more of our most loyal Ford ambassadors,” Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance, said. “We want to keep Ford GT exclusive, but at the same time we know how vital this customer is to our brand.”</p><p></p><p>With the first 500 Ford GTs being allocated primarily to previous GT owners, a lot of supercar suitors were left out in the cold when the application status letters hit mailboxes recently. With two more years of production, waitlisted applicants will be served in the third year, while anyone that didn’t apply the first time around will have another crack in early 2018.</p><p></p><p>If you are thrilled by this announcement about the production car, you have <a href="http://www.fordperformance.com" target="_blank">Ford Performance</a>’s racing commitment to thank. Because the factory racing effort is committed to running the GT in both IMSA and the World Endurance Championship, there has to be a production car to support the race car.</p><p></p><p>“Ford GT has racing in its blood,” Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, product development, and chief technical officer, added. “The road car and race car will live on, side-by-side, for the next four years—providing ample opportunity to test and prove innovative new technologies both on and off the track.”</p><p></p><p>If you already applied but haven’t been approved, you’ll only need to update your request when the <a href="https://www.fordgt.com/content/brand_ford/en_us/performance/gt/wired/application/welcome.html" target="_blank">application window</a> reopens in 2018.</p><p></p><p><img src="http://www.svtperformance.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/1-Ford-GT-Production-Extended.jpg" alt="" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " style="" /></p><p><strong>Ford announced that it was extending production of the Ford GT supercar by two year for a total of four years.
