My dad got a new 2.7 and you cant beat that little engine either. Hard to go wrong with either EB or 5.0. I dont see the point in the 3.0 powerstroke diesel in the F150 though. Gas is cheap and the EB motors make diesel like torque in a more simplistic package for less money. I wouldnt be surprised if Ford dumped this option pretty soon.
I had a 07 with the 3V 5.4. It was a great truck engine, not so much on performance. I put a 120k miles on it, never had any issues with it. I changed the oil every 4k miles and did upgrade the plugs at 75k miles. I traded it in on a new 5.0 F150 in 2017 and I like the 5.0 much better. Its still a great truck engine but this engine has some performance DNA in it. No contest against the old 5.4. I drove a 3.5 EB before I bought mine and they are very impressive. If I towed a lot, I would have gone that route but I rarely tow anything and Im a V8 guy so the 5.0 is perfect for buyers like me.
