As if it was scripted in a Hollywood blockbuster, Ford Performance’s Focus RS RX followed up the conclusion of its Project RX docuseries last week with its first race win over the weekend. Driver Andreas Bakkerud guided his racer to the top of the podium on Sunday in Hell, Norway.

“It’s crazy that we won on home soil. I am so proud of the whole team,” Andreas said. “This is only our fifth event! I am so pumped and so stoked to be a part of this great team. A big thank you to all of our partners.”

Andreas had dominated the qualifying rounds and his teammate Ken Block was right behind him in second in the first two rounds. Unfortunately his Focus RS RX had some problems that prevented him from continuing in competition.

“From the beginning, our goal with this program was for the Focus RS RX to be competitive in rallycross. With support from M-Sport and Hoonigan Racing Division, we felt confident that our combined team put together the best vehicle for the sport,” Global Director of Ford Performance Dave Pericak said. “To have a win after only five races is a testament to the technological competencies of our program, and the dedication of our hardworking engineers, mechanics, and designers. We are proud of what we have accomplished, and are looking forward to the rest of the season!”

If you followed the progress of this race car‘s development partnership between Ford Performance, Hoonigan Racing Division and M-Sport in the Project RX series, you know how much effort went into the development. The short gestation period of this car makes its success all the more impressive. Ken put in on the podium in its second race of the season and in only its fifth race Andreas scored its first win.

The Hoonigans hope to continue the Focus RS RX momentum heading into the next race at Holjes MotorStadion in Holjes, Sweden on July 1.
