Got a new laptop and want to transfer my files over. I want to do it via a usb cord or ethernet cord. I tried from a external drive and failed. Lol. I watched some videos, but started getting confused.
Going from 7 to 10.
So SVTP geeks, give me some suggestions.

if youve got a switch laying around Id just hook both machines up to that. Make sure the old machine has the directories set up to share so the new machine can see em on the network. Should just be able to drag n drop I think. A small gigabit switch should be super cheap even locally if you dont have one. Make sure you have good network chords, the old or crappy ones can really slow you down

howd the external drive transfer fail? shouldnt be a problem

External hard drive failed? Wut? lol

The other alternative is make sure both are on the same home network and make sure the files are visible, and set up to share.

Interesting. Limited to 2GB, but it would definitely be easy if you're under that size limit.

You could pay $12 and do the Plus for a month, 20GB at a time.

Even the 2GB would do it, you can just send 2GB at a time. I prefer to do it that way as I can start organizing while I'm transferring.

Lots of ways to accomplish this.

I would share out the old drive and copy everything across using Robocopy.

Or

Copy everything to s USB and then copy up. This gives you a backup of all the data as well.

I host a few cloud storage servers, could hook you up with a temp account to move your porn. Just let me know how much space you need.

I'll have to remember to look you up next time I get a new computer. I need to be able to transfer my scientific research materials easily.

I’m more lost now. I’ll probably just take the two laptops into Best Buy.

What failed with the hard drive?

The only issues I’ve had is telling it to copy a huge amount of shit at one time - if it has an issue with one file then sometimes it cancels the whole thing. I just do a couple folders at a time because of it.

Best Buy has ****ed up too many people’s computers

The files were there, but nothing in them. I don’t know how to select only certain files. Like pictures, PDF’s.
