Ethanol has been at all the gas pumps for years and years now--as such, uncle sam has required that all cars produced after such and such year be compatible(to some degree) with an E10 blend. Take that for what it's worth.

I really should stop being lazy and post the updates to my car since Shaun recently finished my E85 tune. I went from 640/512 SAE on pump 91 to 776/594 SAE on corn. I'm definitely a believer, but fuel economy went down by almost half haha. Be prepared for around 4-ish mpg less on an NA setup, and I lost about 8 mpg city on E85. Good thing it's not my daily lol.[/QUOTE]

:??::eek:

I knew there had to be a downside! I thought the whole point on running e85 was to get better gas too???

It's a lot cheaper than 93 though!

How is it safer to run e85 making 700hp plus on a stock bottom end boosted car? I wanna make the switch just don't wanna blow it up

stock fuel pump is NOT designed to run e85 long term. It will gum up your fuel system. You also need e85 safe injectors or they will corrode.

This is what I was concerned with. I seen a write up on this in last months 5.0 mag were they did a swap on a Kenny bell powered coyote. The correct injectors alone were 1200$!:(

Ur making 10psi an make 776whp wow e85 is nice u must be manual what rpm is that 7500...thanks

Yeah, I need to upload the photo of the dyno sheet, I've just been busy and not able to be on much lately. Yes, it's a manual car and that power peaks at just about 7k and holds even until 7500. I actually found the limiting factor, and I need to get a boss manifold lol.

The weakest link of these motors (under most circumstances) are the pistons, due to any detonation pretty much blowing them apart. However, E-85 has such a small chance at detonation (pretty much zero chance, in most cases) that it removes them as the first major weak link of the motor for the most part.

However (and this is where it seems to get complicated for some people to follow) my 776 whp is SAE corrected. At the elevation I live at, around 4400 feet, I only make about 630 ish true wheel horespower. We really do lose that much to elevation up here. Technical "safe zone" for a stock, non-boss 5.0 motor, is around 650 true wheel, any more than that and you're really pushing it, depending on your choice of poison as far as forced induction goes. Now, that's not to say 650 is totally safe if you drive like a crazy guy, but I personally know three people running over 700 SAE on stock motors, and they have been living at that for a while now; alot of the reliability comes from having a reputable person tune it, and not beating the absolute tar out of the car on a daily basis.

Eh, there are alot of factors you have to look at before you make the switch. Yeah, the pumps aren't made for E-85, so it's not going to last 60 thousand+ miles, but as long as you're not getting craptastic fuel, it's not going to burn out in three thousand miles. As for the rest of the fuel system, pushing more than around 700-ish true wheel is going to require a return style fuel system. My ID1000's for the conversion were significantly cheaper than $1200 though.

but it burns 30% more @ WOT than 93... so it ends up being around the same, HOWEVER... it is still a lot cheaper than c16 or similar fuels. E85 will make the MORE power THAN c16, which cost well over $10 a gal.
Fixed.

Just copied and pasted this from another thread I posted in.....

I avg 17 on the Hwy but in the city I can get it down to single digits if I drive it like I stole it..... I avg 13 mpg combined though.

In the Houston area E85 is $2.80 and good 93 is $3.60-$3.70, do the math.....

13mpg on E85 vs 18mpg on 93

E85 is $2.80 x a 14 gallon tank= $39.20 to fill up

93 is $3.60 x a 14 gallon tank= $50.40 to fill up

Difference of $11.20 saved per fill up on E85

E85 Avg 13mpg x 14 gallons = 182 miles per tank

93 Avg 18mpg x 14 gallons = 252 miles per tank

Difference of 70 miles gained on 93 per fill up

70miles gained divided by 13mpg you get on E85 = 5.38 gallons of E85 needed to match the miles per tank 93 gives you.

5.38 gallons x $2.80 price of E85= $15.06

$15.06 price more per fill up of E85 to match the miles of 93
Subtracted by $11.20 the price saved per fill up E85 vs 93

= $3.86, the cost per fill up you are financially losing when using E85 but gaining 60+rwhp.....no brainier E85 FTW

In the end isn't not gonna hurt your bank account espiecally if it's better for the engine/makes way more power than pump gas.

e85 around here is only $.30 less than 87.
87 has been in the $3.50 rage lately... so e85 is around $3.20 a gal. Not to mention there is only one station that sells it to the public, and it's 15 miles west of me (towards out of town, i never have a reason to go that way, so it's no like "oh it's on my way to work so i'll stop by and fill up" )... so while i agree e85 is great performance wise, it's quite inconvenient to run it in my car, especially since you burn more of it. Not to mention, with e85 you can't let it sit in your tank for too long, and i test the ethanol content every time i purchase any of it.
i love e85, but I will stick to 93 for every day driving, and I will have a 2nd map with higher boost, on e85.

I understand the benefits of running corn on FI but what about N/A? I don't see my build going past full bolt ons (non blower), cams, and n2o. I have a few bolt ons now with a 100 shot wet kit. I've done a lot of research and still have questions!?!? Some ppl swap to 47's and run corn but can a 93 tune be done with the #47's? How long will the #47's and stock pump handle e85? Will I have to swap injectors back to stock if I decide to switch back to 93 (w/ a tune obviously)? I'm not going to "just do it" without a sh!t ton of info and done rite.

You can have a tune for 93 with the 47's. I have a jpc return fuel ssystem awaiting install. I will have a 93 and a e85 tune. I plan to run the e85 most of the time, but I like to take my mustang on trips and would switch to the 93 before leaving just so I don't have any issues finding e85.

The two stations near me are on base and I drive by one of them 5 days a week.
