The land of commies and socialists!
I wrestled with this for a while and finally pulled the plug on my Facebook account this morning.

No I am not looking for some slap on the ass good game but rather wondering if anyone else is done with Facebook and the like?

If so what were your reasons and was there a final straw so to speak?

For me it was not only the flat out nastiness of people leading up to the election but also Facebook shutting down some of the pages I followed.

The big one for me was the nastiness I saw though. I watched people who I respected as human beings that I am politically opposite of make statements that wouldn't pass the elevator test.

Yes in a way you could say it was over politics but it wasn't the disagreements it was the way people behaved with total lack of human decency. I guess unlike most people I can agree to disagree while others are incapable and also forget that there is another human being on the other side. These same people don't act like that in person so it was surprising to say the least.

Overall I think I'll be better off not seeing that shit anymore and maybe through face to face interaction I'll be able to regain some of the respect that I've lost for people.

So am I the only one or have others decided to pull the plug as well recently?

I pulled the plug years ago

Besides all the negatives of the stuff that goes on on social media and the amount of tracking and selling of your info, it was a YUUUGE waste of time.

Social media is cancer

I did unfollow and defriend some FB acquaintances who posted nothing but hate filled political stuff but I mostly just glossed over it when I saw it. Some people just totally lose their mud when it comes to politics. My employer actually has cracked down on some people who posted some negative comments about said employer. I tend to watch what I write on FB.

Recently? No. I pulled the plug a long time ago.

People are savages online, in person, not so much.

I can give it and take it, some can't. People's lives were being affected and I didn't want any part of that.

I mostly pulled the Facebook plug years ago, still a 'member', but don't participate in any of the endless gossip and BS. I find it handy for sending a message once a year or so. I would have zero problems dumping it totally.

I got rid of it a while back & just recently also Instagram. I have twitter left but with them deleting & censoring most of the stuff I follow its only a matter of time before deleting that one.

Nope.

I have a limited amount of friends on FB and use it for car stuff/selling items.

I have yet to run into any drama on there.

I would say twitter is worse than facebook.

Congrats! I’ve been FB free for 2.5 years now. I kept Messenger to send memes.

I got rid of my actual facebook 9 or so years ago, but got a troll account with a believable pseudonym that I use for hobby shit and trolling but that's usually it. No way would I let my employer/potential employer see some of the shit I post.

Got rid of Facebook back in 2012. I never really used it much and I don’t care about keeping in touch with people from HS/College. Everyone i see now is a text/phone call away. My wife has FB so anytime i need to sell car stuff, i post on hers lol.

I was thinking about getting IG for car stuff but I don’t know if I would actually use it.

no but I've been thinking about it more and more. I do have business pages on FB/IG I manage so still gonna have to have an account to manage that at minimum. I think Im gonna go the route mentioned above and delete my current profile, sign up with some bullshit and put no personal info, going back to a free email account etc...

At this point I just unfollow/unfriend anyone who posts stupid bullshit

Haven’t been on Facebook since 2011. I got tired of the same old shit every day. Despite numerous people pestering me to return I have no desire to. And from what I hear Facebook is only getting worse. I have the phone numbers of the people who were worth keeping in touch with. Car forums are the only social media that I’m involved with.

I often think about closing my account. About a year ago I stayed off of Facebook for a month. I was a much happier person.

I still enjoy some of the foxbody and cobra pages. Otherwise, I could do without all the whining and complaining.

I think taking the app off my phone would be a huge step.

I dumped my FB a week ago. The final straw was when I was getting infractions for things I posted 5,6,& 7 years ago. That's creepy. Either someone is stalking my page and reporting things or it's FB's algorithm erasing the past so they can control the future.
Between that and all the other drama and bull posted above I had had enough. I liked my life a lot more before FB.
I still have a burner account for certain pages I like to follow or find out updates.

Here's an example:
