Do we still have underdrive dampers?

Im gearing up for a street NA motor build on my 04 Mach 1 (MT). The plan is LT headers, Todd Warren cams, ported intake, shaved heads, and billet oil pump gears. Factory redline.

My car is set up for back road, twisty fun. At some point I may AutoX or HPDE the car. My build goals are better power with a useable power curve and longevity/reliability.

The engine builder I’m talking to wants me to run the Steeda UDP set up. He’s well regarded and has a lot of experience. He claims to have used the Steeda UDP set up on a lot of hard use builds with no problems.

I’m concerned that this may not be in the best interest of the motor in terms of longevity. I’m leaning toward an ATI stock diameter damper and underdriven March accessory pullies.

Just wondering if the hive mind has changed on underdriven crank dampers.

Thanks all!

my understanding was the Steeda and some others weren't properly dampening vibration causing the stock oil pump gears to fail. If you're putting billet gears in the pump I would think that would make it ok but that's just me thinking out loud.

Thanks for the reply. It’s my understanding that uncontrolled harmonics at sustained high RPMs can be detrimental to more bottom end components than just the oil pump, such as the crank and timing chain tensioners.

Todd Warren (na svt) says the March fluid damper is fine to use under 7k RPM.

You can also get the 4" march alt pulley to add a bit more hp...

8888888888888888888888888888888888888888
March 1158-08 UDP
March 640-08 PS
March 1172 WP
The OEM belt length you have now will work with this pulley combo as well.

Additional underdrive alternator pulleys not included in the recipe:
[OEM size is 2.375”]
March 116-08 4’
Speed Concepts: 3.2”;2.7”
A new belt length will be needed to add these pulleys

The Speed Concepts site doesn’t list the pulleys you referenced anymore.

Is there a reseller that still stocks them?
