In the ongoing sage of rebuilding my 98 Cobra engine. I need to purchase a Dial Bore Gauge to measure for proper bearing clearances and confirm cylinder bore sizes. But can’t decide which way to go. Analog or traditional dial (indicator) bore gauges have been in use forever. Are accurate down to *ten thousandth of an inch. Are less expensive. But are they the best choice for the home DIY engine builder with limited experience?
Electronic (Digital) bore gauges give a numerical read out and lock-in the *precise minimum clearance necessary to accurately calculate bearing oil clearance. But at 3 times and higher the price of a traditional dial (indicator) bore gauge.

*Properly calibrated and/or set up and used correctly.

The bottom line is I absolutely have to get it right the 1st time. So I’m not pulling the engine in 6 months due to bearing failures.
