Depstech Bore Scope Camera Review | SVTP Tool-Tech

Have you ever had an engine you’re pretty sure is blown-up but there’s no signs of the block being ventilated, and you want to see just how bad it’s hurt without tearing it down? That’s the situation I found myself in with my Jet Ski a while back, so I picked up a Depstech DS580 Bore Scope Camera. While it helps me find disappointment, the camera itself absolutely does not disappoint.

It comes with a very nice case and a handful of accessories to help you in handle certain situation. However, the best features are the very clear image it produces on the full-color screen and the firm flexible cable. More on that later, but for now check out how well this thing works:

As you can see, I found much destruction in the cylinder of my 2-stroke 1200. I have a much cheaper USB bore scope camera that I featured in a too-tech story a few years back. The floppy wire the camera was attached to was a major weakness on it. However, the metal-bendy cable on the Depstech DS580 camera fixes that problem. It makes the camera much easier to position and control.

Speaking of controls, everything is self contained on the unit. You don’t have to hook up an external power source or computer to this one. The USB built-in rechargeable battery is a great feature. It also has an onboard micro-sd card that allows you to save pics and videos of whatever you’re shooting. This is one of those tools that you don’t realize how handy it is until you have one. I keep finding new uses for it.

Those of you who’ve been on the site any length of time probably know that I enjoy old POS trucks and equipment on the government auctions. I’ve used this camera to scope more cylinders and fuel tanks than I’d care to remember. It’s also super handy for retrieving dropped hardware that seems to get lost in the black-hole of an engine bay. This is one tool I definitely recommend you add to your tool box if you have the cash for it. I bought mine on Amazon a while back, but here are the current models – Check it Out:

I’ve got a cheap one that connects to your phone via WiFi. If I was gonna buy another one it’d be the more expensive one that you can move the camera around with the knob. Having the camera face the right way after snaking it through can be a pita

Teslong has models as well that are equally good. On Amazon, the Teslong and Depstech bore scopes are rated an identical 4.5/5. Teslong makes a plumbing model which could be handy.

That’s honestly why I bought one. I was expecting it to be considerably more expensive. That price is in the “I don’t have to check in with my wife before I buy it!!” category LOL
