I saw it happen live a long time ago...I think a player crashed the net and his skate hit the goalies jugular.

I remember when that happened...it was years ago. There was a collision at the net and someone get a skate blade up under that goalies mask and sliced him. The crazy part was before that photo was taken and the goalie shoots up straight and blood spurts four feet across the ice before he could get his hands up around his neck...and yes, he did survive

I think he got like 300+ stiches but was back playing in less than a month. He has since retired but has some emotional problems as a result.

That's Clint Malarchuk. He's a goalie coach in the minors now I think.

ESPN recently showed the uncensored video of that. The other players were just standing there stunned at the amount of blood and the way it was spewing out.

When the trainer & doctor came out and got over to help him, you can very clearly see Malarchuk ask them "Am I gonna live?". He was pretty calm. I would have been flailing around like a lunatic after seeing half my blood on the ice.

Amazingly, most goalies still do not wear neck/throat protectors, even though they are most likely of any players to get tagged by a skate blade since they are down on their knees or laying on the ice stopping pucks.
