My wife and I just returned from a trip to Connecticut. While there, we noticed something interesting about the CT State Troopers. On different occasions, we saw Troopers driving down the highway with their emergency lights on, however they were not flashing, but were solid. What is the reason behind this?
Possibly 'cruise' lights if they were solid and weren't flashing, it's to make them highly visible in the area, to other motorist etc...I have seen some departments do that around here, not very often though.
IIRC Connecticut state troopers have take home cars that can be used for personal use. Maybe the lights mean they are off duty?
What color were the lights? Blue? State police here are using steady blue lights called "cruise lights". They're for visibility and people don't have to pull over since they non-emergency lighting. When they turn to flashing, that's an emergency situation. I've seen some police (local and state) that have stationary, steady tall lights. At least they look tall from a distance. Those might be for even better police visibility.
