Need some guidance on this as my search was inconclusive.

What is the correct pinion bearing for these cars?

I have a Track Pack and want to change my rear gears out to 3.31's. I have the gears and install kit from the link below and apparently the pinion bearing will not work with the Torsion diff. Another question, aside from the 8.8 install kit, gears, and new fluid, what else will I need or should do when changing the rear gears out?

This is the link to the same pinion bearing in the install kit. It is the newly designed bearing, so it is correct for our cars, just apparently not for the Track Pack/Boss.

Update: I finally found some answers while searching.

It seems like the Track Packs, Bosses, and 13-14 GT500's all use the same larger pinion bearing. Unfortunately it is $100 just for the bearing! Part #: 6L2Z-4625-AB

Thread I found the info from: Pinion Bearing Issue

I realize this is an older thread. But I wanted to post up some info for those of you doing research on this, or looking for parts.

The '13-14 GT500, and '12-13 Boss with the Torsen, use a larger pinion bearing than all previous GT500's and Mustangs. As you can see in the pics above, it's considerably larger and not interchangeable when compared with the others. This bearing was originally used in the 2006-2010 Ford Explorers. It is Ford part number 6L2Z-4625-AB. They're not cheap, but they can be bought from Ford (Tasca Ford parts), or Lethal sells them, and they're available pretty cheap on Ebay.

If you call your local Ford dealer without the part number, you'll get the wrong bearing. 6L2Z-4625-AB is the bearing you need, so give them that number. If you get a 9L3Z-4630-A, it is incorrect. That bearing fits '12 and older 8.8's.

Hope that helps.

Just checked and they don't provide us with the number. The Ford bearings are usually either Koyo to Timken. A lot of the bearings are coming from Japan now, not really a bad thing.

As for getting the wrong part, if you give a VIN it will come up with the correct part. I just punched my VIN in and that number came up for the inner pinion bearing. BTW that part number includes both the bearing and the cup.

Just wanted to update this thread for all Track Pack/BOSS/13-14GT500 owners.

Here are some pictures of the normal 8.8 pinion bearing for the normal 11-14 5.0 and 11-12 GT500 Mustangs on the left, and the noticeably larger bearing for the TP/Boss/13-14GT500 on the right.

Oldstv, I looked at the bearing and it is indeed a KOYO USA made piece, the part number I found stamped on it was: ST4190

When I did mine I was able to purchase it from a local dealer. We got surprised by it too, didn't realize it was different from a standard GT.
